Yes. Applied on common app. Got ID 5 days later. Used ID to to set up one.iu account and the next day was able to log in to the account and confirm application was complete. And now we wait … until January, I guess.
We were told in July there would be no pre-Nov 1 decisions, all early action “BY” January 15 not “ON” January 15th via batches of admits/deferral/denial decisions in November, December and January. True for the University as a whole not just Kelley and not necessarily for high stat kids. So far - nothing before Nov 1 (as of 10/25) has proven accurate. We’ll see for the rest.
Would be great to know before the RD apps for other schools are due (Jan). … We have a couple safeties that she probably wont submit if she gets into IU.
It would be so great to know before RD deadlines! S24 has a couple reach schools (with lots of suppemental essays) that he plans to apply to in the RD round, but I think he likes IU/Kelley more than the private reaches. If he got a yes from IU, he might not have to write all those essays … and if he got a no from IU, he might plan to spend some extra time on those essays.
Exactly! We have one private that’s a target and two safeties that she could drop. Saves money and hassle. I hope IU is realizing that mid January EA notifications may hurt their yield….
I expect they think delaying EA notifications may help yield, because they won’t accept students who get into their ED school (assuming said accepted ED students withdraw their apps). This is a major reason that some other schools have pushed EA decisions to Jan/Feb over the last 5 years or so.
Interesting, though I would think a lot of their peer schools don’t offer ED. (Michigan, Purdue, Ohio State, UIUC etc).
The reasons IU shared with us for the switch among many were 1. It would allow the specialized schools like Kelley to provide admits at same time as University as people were finding it confusing to be admitted to the University but not the specific major; 2. It would increase yield for the EA/ED reason stated above and does align with peers because as when IU offers Hutton or SSA people would apply for those early and now might not if Michigan or Wisky or something else is top choice and they are admitted to those schools around same time; 3. It would give admissions some break in between decision batches instead of constant rolling admissions; 4. It would stop any race to send in apps as early as possible to be first in line in August and hopefully get a more diverse student application community by Nov 1.
This is exactly how both UIUC and Purdue notify. In the case of UIUC, they don’t notify until the end of January. I feel like IU is just coming in line with the other Big Tens.
Yep but now my kid is submitting to UIUC ea, which she wouldn’t have done if IU notified in December. It seems like everything change requires more apps everywhere, which further burdens the admissions systems and the kids. Ugh.
Good to know, its been 7 days and I haven’t gotten mine yet. I hope they send it by October 31, otherwise I can’t review request or apply for DA lol
You have until February 1 to submit a review request. So no need to panic if you don’t have your ID by November 1.
The November 1 deadline is for EA (and hearing IU admission early) and for Kelley auto admit based on stats.
Anyone who applies after November 1 has to submit a review request.
Sounds good! However I heard somewhere that petitions have a higher chance of being accepted if you apply by November 1st for them. I’m assuming this is false? Is there any benefit for early action review requests?
I have not heard that.
@jefrobertson have you heard this?
Accurate in the sense that there are probably 25% as many EA applications as RD applications so you have a higher chance statistically by math, but this is a false statistical conclusion in most cases. Schools all want you to apply earlier than later as it gives them a sense of their class and yes there is a “higher” chance of getting in for that statistical reason. But it’s also as statistically likely that the students accepted EA would have been accepted anyway and there is no greater chance of admission for those otherwise. I think ED schools is probably where true statistical greater chance of admission exists. But that numbers benefit is true - if scores are good enough Kelley benefits from the EA period in admitting a certain percentage and recruiting them accordingly to maybe not apply RD elsewhere and commit to IU so I see very little reason in not applying EA other than time and money or maybe needing to bump up stats a bit.
I do not believe the Kelley review request must be submitted by Nov 1, Kelley is not EA, the University is. But it is my understanding Kelley admissions will be determining review requests in this Nov 1 - Jan 15 period not just auto admit students. We are auto DA so I haven’t looked too far into this.
Is it possible to change to ‘Test Optional’ after applying with Test Scores? If yes, would it help for someone with average test scores?
I have submitted a 1430 and a 40/45 IB to Kelley as a intl. student. Am I eligible for an auto-admit?
Also, if I am above the auto-admit range, is it guaranteed acceptance into IU-B, or guaranteed admission into Kelley after I get into IU-B?
I am not sure how Kelley auto admit works with IB scores. You can just submit a review request thru your portal (it’s straightforward and covers your bases), or you can contact your AO and ask, or you can call the main number and see if someone can answer your question. Good luck.
I’ve never heard of Kelley converting IB to a GPA. The GPA and test scores are meant to be a very simple measurement and they don’t really deal with all sorts of variable like high GPA/lower test or TO or anything else. Submitting a review request would not take you out of being direct admit if the IB is actually converted to a GPA.
Looking at last year’s thread, looks like the petition process for Direct Admit was very competitive. This seems to be a change vs prior years.
