IU Learning Communities

Does anyone have direct experience with Learning Communities at IU? My son has been admitted to IU and would like to attend Kelley. His older brother has a friend who graduated from IU a couple of years ago and told him to avoid learning communities as it would be all the "weirdos". This doesn't make any sense to me if it is true that 4000 of the dorm students belong to a lc and that there appear to be some real advantages. We'd appreciate any feedback.

well, I dont go to IU, but I live in a learning community, and im unhappy with it. How it works is that you take classes right in the dorm with the kids that are in the LC, which are the same kids that you live with. Taking the classes in the dorm is actually pretty nice becasue you dont have to walk halfway across campus and the profs. office are right in the dorm too, so its super convinent to get help from them. The calsses are small(20-25 kids) so you get a lot more individual attention.

However, the big sticking point that I have is with the people. Alot of them seem very immature, and it seems like there is A LOT of H.S. type drama here going on, and it seems like the people here are somwaht shelteered, and aren't really into the whole partying scene. So, just my two cents on LC's.
