IU or Purdue for accounting?

Hello, I have been admitted to both IU and Purdue, and am having an extremely hard time deciding on where to go. I know Kelley is held in very high regard as far as accounting goes, but I was not direct admitted and have not heard back about my petition. If I go to Purdue I do not have to apply to get into their business school, so I wa wondering which school would be the wisest choice for me.

My gut feeling is to go with the direct admit to Purdue if you know you want to study accounting. While it may not ranked quite as high, Purdue’s b-school is widely respected. The accounting firms cast a pretty wide net when it comes to recruiting so if you do well at Purdue you should be in good shape. And I know too many people who have gone to a college without a pre-admit to the school/program they really want to be in and they end up never getting in and having to transfer or go with a different major.

However you may want to do some research and consider the following:

–What are the chances of getting into Kelley without the direct admit? What percentage of those who apply for an internal transfer get in? Is there a GPA requirement etc. for the internal transfer? Is the internal transfer automatically approved if you meet certain standards or do you have to go through an application process?

–If you don’t get into Kelley could you be happy as an economics major at IU or are you sure you want to study accounting?

–In terms of Purdue you can check with career services and confirm that all of the big accounting firms recruit there (my guess is that they all do).

IU vs. Purdon’t. Is there really any question? Come on man.

Ok, listen what @happy1 has to say. For accounting, you’ll probably be fine with Purdon’t.

Unless you are a musician, or you want to spend the rest of your life saying “Do you want fries with that,” the answer to the IU or Purdue question is always Purdue.
