IU Scholars Reception Chicago

My son was invited to attend February 18th. We already visited IU and will be going to direct admit weekend. Can anyone give any insight if this is worth attending? Thanks

We went several years ago and it’s an event to entice prospective students to attend IU. From what I can tell, they invite students who have received a Dean’s scholarship. They give out good information but you’ve probably heard it elsewhere. If you’re already committed to IU it might be a good place to meet other potential students. We are going this year just for the experience and also going to Direct Admit weekend.

My son, who will be out of town that weekend, received an invitation also. Does this mean he received a scholarship? If so, where would we be able to see what it is? As far as we can tell, there was no email sent about a scholarship, just the invitation to the event. Thanks in advance for any insight.

If he was given a scholarship tit would have been included in the admission packet (#IUsaidYes) received in the mail. There is one letter from the Office of Admissions offering admission and a second letter from the Office of Scholarships with the scholarship. There wasn’t an email sent and I don’t believe you can see it anywhere online. If unsure, you could call the Office of Scholarships.

The event started with a dessert reception. Honors college students mingle and chat up the attendees. There was a short general presentation and then break out sessions for each college. A panel of students and the school dean talked about their experiences and paths and answered questions. Afterwards they gave away a nice gift - a premium water bottle. Photo backdrops are available. There is a parking lot across the street kitty corner from the Hotel. I would get a Spot Hero pass rather than pay for Valet Parking at the hotel.
