IU vs UT business schools

Its hard to decide...Which is a better school University of Texas: mccobs school of business or Indiana University: Kelley school of business... i have been accepted into kelley and have been accepted into UT but as a undecided major.. Which school would be better?

So many high school seniors I talked to this weekend at Direct Admit day were either facing this situation or a similar one with Michigan.

If you are out-of-state for Texas, then I would definitely recommend coming to Kelley. It’s safer because you are already admitted. It is just as good, and it is cheaper OOS, especially after the amount of scholarships you probably got to IU if you got admitted to UT OOS.

I have a feeling you’re probably in-state for Texas though, which makes it much more difficult. You only need between a 3.4 and 3.6 to transfer into McCombs from undergraduate studies, which isn’t bad. But the risky part of that is if you don’t get into McCombs and you are set on studying business, you’re pretty much stuck studying economics.

Here’s what I wish I would have done. Come to Kelley as a freshman and taken the required business indicator courses for McCombs during my freshman year at IU. I chose not to because taking those 4 courses freshman year at IU is not in your best interests as an IU student, but it will allow you to transfer to McCombs externally if you do really well (3.8+). Now, after a really good freshman year in Kelley, I find myself possibly facing the decision of coming back in Kelley honors as a sophomore, or being a sophomore undergraduate studies transfer student at UT because I don’t have the indicator courses.

I was facing the same dilemma two years ago. I really wanted to go to UT, but ended up choosing IU because I was a direct admit and was really worried about getting into McCombs. Texas was already more expensive as it was, and I have a scholarship from IU that made it a pretty easy decision, even though I wanted to go to UT more.

Sometimes I think I should’ve gone, because I think I would’ve been able to get into McCombs, and when I was applying it sounded very difficult. (Everybody warned me calc there was extremely difficult, so be warned).

Last year though, I was glad to find out that they dropped from 10 to 17 in the rankings and we were put at 18. So from that standpoint, it’s really about where you want to end up working.

UT has slightly higher ranking than IU for Finance/Accounting based upon the following info.
