I was accepted into both IU Kelley as a Direct Admit and Villanova's School of Business. I plan on applying to the Business Honors programs for whichever college i attend as well. So what are peoples' thoughts on these 2 schools?

EDIT: I plan on visiting the 2 schools this week and next.

I don't know about Villanova, but at IU you'll be here about 2 weeks before finals. It might make the campus a bit quieter than normal, or not ;) Just something to keep in mind. This weekend is the Little 500. Next week the last week of classes, the following is supposed to be a reading week, then finals. The campus should just about be in it's full spring glory by then.

I'll keep that in mind. I'm actually considering coming next friday instead, I'll schedule a visit tomorrow and see if I'd be able to sit in on some classes or something. I've actually got a friend who also got admitted to Kelley and he might come with me to visit as well.

I decided to attend Kelley. I visited both colleges and here are my thoughts on both:

Villanova-
Pros- Great facilities, really nice teachers and I sat in on 2 classes which were upper level classes, both of which were pretty small (around 20, mayb less). I think they give you a free laptop as well. If you go for the welcome ceremony or whatever, it seems like a very warm and welcoming environment.
Cons- a lot more expensive than IU. It's a really preppy school so if some people may feel out of place though I'm sure you can find your own niche.

Indiana Kelley-
Pros- Great education from what i've experienced so far (don't let talks of A100 and K201 scare you, if you put in the time and effort you'll do fine. Accounting 100 is more of a class that tests your logic and attention to detail). Teachers are also really nice but the intro classes are pretty big (200+). Beautiful campus and pretty cool campus town with some of the best food (4th street is really well known for its great ethnic food and Mother Bear's Pizza was ranked one of America's top 9 pizzeria's by People Magazine). The cost is also a lot lower.
Cons- Lecture halls and some classrooms are old, however the computer labs are pretty nice. Dorm food isn't great (not sure how Villanova's is), but it's fine and unless you're really picky you shouldn't have any problems.

That's all I can really come up with right now, if you have anymore specific questions I can try my best to answer them.

MMmmm, get connected to the CC community! I don't see you post a lot!
What's your AIM? There's a lot of us here on CC that will get you acclimated
to any crowd imaginable xD. I'm even contemplating through an after-finals
party. My screenname is Xepa777

Being a direct admit makes you eligible for certain scholarships. Direct Admit Freshman: Scholarship Opportunities: Admissions: Undergraduate Program: Kelley School of Business: Indiana University Bloomington
There are also certain events and stuff that you can attend as a DA. As for classes, there are some classes especially reserved for direct admits so you that you can get into a class that may usually fill quickly. Really though the benefits are really just the security of knowing your in a business school. I think as a DA you only need a C for ur GPA to stay in Kelley, as opposed to the B that non DA's need to just apply. So if lets say a family emergency or injury hinders your studies, you won't have to worry as much.

Radron who were u referring to? me or flash?

On the website it says something about being automatically eligible for certain Kelley scholarships as a freshman direct admit. Does anyone have any information about how much these scholarships are and chances of receiving them. When does notification go out. My S already received the $9,000 scholarship with his admit package. With the OOS cost we're hoping for a little more.

Well glad to see more Kelley kids on here. Post any information you may find useful to researchmaven or flash if you can.

Researchmaven: I actually got one of the Kelley ones myself. I got 9,000 from the Brinkman Memorial Scholarship. But I'm not sure how they decide how someone gets it. I had a 3.5 or 3.6 high school GPA (out of 4.0) and a 2150 SAT (1540/1600), so as you can see i had a mediocre gpa but a great sat score. I know people with significantly higher GPA's and lower SAT scores that didn't receive any Kelley Scholarships. This is how I got mine: I submitted my deposit around 3-4 weeks before the deadline and about a week before the deadline I received an Email from the people that determine the Kelley scholarships asking me if I had definitely committed to IU and Kelley because they understand some people give in the deposit but end up going to another school. If I had committed, they had extra scholarship money left over that year that I could be considered for. So I don't know if it was an extra incentive to try and get me to go considering the timing or if they thought I truly deserved it or w/e. The scholarships are renewable for those that receive it granted they maintain a certain GPA. Mine's specifically for OOS students as well. So I think the number of scholarships given out depends on how many people fail to meet the renewal requirements and those who graduate and had scholarships, this way the scholarship money is freed up to give to new DAs. I hope that helps! And good luck, I hope you can get more scholarship money, I plan on applying for more this spring (there are scholarships that you can apply for in the spring for kelley students as well)

Thank you microdragon, that is very helpful information. My son sent in his deposit and housing information about 2 weeks ago. When was the deadline you refer to in your description above? It's great to know that there is at least a possibility for more significant scholarship money.
