I've asked this before but...retake 2270 SAT?

it depends on your breakdown, if you have low math and low verbal but high writing, then retake. If you have high math high verbal and low writing (not too low) then stay with it. If you have high math low verbal or vice versa, its a tough call.

Retake it, if you think you can do better. Based on the colleges you're aiming for, you definitely need higher scores (2300+) to balance the weak ecs you have.

If you absolutely know you will do better, then take it again.

If you do worse, then you really have nothing to worry about since a 2270 is great.

Have you considered the ACT?

I'm going to have to say no, don't. It seems pointless to me. 2270 is insanely high, a few points higher will make no difference, and a few points lower won't help either. Concentrate on ECs, essays, etc. and stop worrying about numbers so much, like mathwhiz said.

yes retake. I'm pretty sure u'd pimp the retake, and if ur weak in the ECs area, it's good to have strong standardized test scores.

Take it again. Over 750 V and you would be a lock anywhere, IMHO.

DUDE! You are like my SAT twin. I got an 800 math, 730 reading, 740 writing (with 9 essay).

Anyways, I would retake it in about a year. Writing isnt as important and a 1530 isn't very different from a 1570 or a 1600. It can't hurt though so you might as well try. It can only help.

yuck your score appalls me. you cant even get into a community college with that ****. retake it and break 2390, or else your screwed

i have a 2210( M760(800 on the old) V770 W680) but i decided not to retake since writing really doesn't matter. Also i think it's better to use the time studying SAT for ur essay bc it's ur essay that matters at the end.

good point

or you could retake w/o studying. there's a lot of luck trying to nail those last few questions anyway, so if study time is the issue IMO still take it w/o studying.

wow thanks for the input guys

" if you don't take again it seems like you have no confidence in yourself" - not true at all. The opposite, in fact. Not taking it shows that she puts the SAT in its proper perspective. Concentrate on making your essays and the rest of your application stand out. We're talking about the difference of one, possibly two, questions to bring up the verbal.
It's also possible that your score could go down in one area - especially the math, as it only takes one wrong to bring it to a 790.

And mensa, a 750v is not a "lock anywhere."
Although I wish it were, as that is my son's score. Believe me, 20pts is not going to make or break you at a school.

its funny how ppl say writing doesn't matter. sure maybe it doesn't count as much for many colleges, but the top ones like harvard count it as much as math and verb

If you think you can do better, and have time to retake it, then do. I kind of wish I had retaken it(I got 800v 800m 700w(7 essay) ) just because I didnt know going in that you only got 25 minutes for an essay(which I think is pure ********) and now its too late to bother for me(can't sign up for decemember anymore and january is too late) So if you really feel you can do better, just go do it.

not entirely true. While writing is a consideration at top colleges, it is not at all weighted as much as math and verbal are.

^not true

stanford’s data (from a pamphlet)

the admit rates for applicants with 800 in writing is 21 percent, critical reading 800 is only 18 percent, and the admit rate for applicants with 800 in math is 15 percent

and only 7% of applicants have an 800 in writing, 8% have 800 in cr, and 14% have an 800 in math

as you can see, applicants with 800 in writing are the most rare, and have a 21% chance

wow dude… nice work

i haven’t been on college confidential in 4 years, talk about being a thread necromancer

They really should lock threads that haven’t been touched in over 2 years…

It’s strange seeing an email in my inbox about the SAT, when I’m now studying for the LSAT lol
