Retaking 2300+ is stupid.

Got a 2340 junior year
760 CR
780 M
800 W

Then I retook as a senior and got a 2330
740 CR
790 M
800 W

Moral: Don't retake >= 2300. It's useless to.

what about retaking a 2310 superscore

Same thing. Stupid idea.

it doesn’t work as a cutoff guys. to a certain extent Arachnotron is right, while I would beg to differ in other areas. while it’s generally a bad idea retaking a 2300+ sat, sometimes it makes sense. for example, if you’re applying to MIT or caltech where most people have 800s for their math section and your scores are CR 800 M 700 W 800, that would be a case in which a 2300 can and should be retaken. however, if you’re applying to MIT and you’re retaking CR 790 M 800 W 790, that’s a terribly bad idea. it all depends on where you’re targeting. with that, good luck to all future SAT takers.

I have 800 on both CR and M, but a 750 on W. Is it true that some colleges disregard writing? Which few? If this is important I may retake. Thanks guys.

I got the score score…two month difference

few disregard it (e.g. MIT and chicago) but others pay less importance to it. it’s not really so black and white - treating it as an equal vs. disregarding. and drange, here’s to singaporean 2300s

haha srrinath, saw your post on the 12/12 essay format thread. Dang, I followed that sort of format and got a 9/12. Filled both pages to the brim. And did the same thing the previous adminstration and got 10/12. Moreover, my 10 essay used only 2 examples whereas my 9 essay used 3 examples. What the hell.

A 12/12 would have got me 2400. And I thought I totally owned W (CR was a total surprise). :frowning: :(

Maybe College Board is starting to be aware of this format thing and is now trying to screw innocent people like us.

No one is innocent.
Remember that it isn’t solely based on # of examples and length. I’ve used two examples to fill up two pages in OCT and got a 12. I used two examples in DEC (filled up two pages too) and got an 11.

Basically, you just need to summarize the story and at the end, write a sentence stating why this relates to your thesis. Format writing stinks.

I disagree with the title post.

ha drange17, do not retake. even if the college still considers the writing section, a 750 is great.

^I agree. A 50 pt. increase is right on the border of significance, meaning that if you don’t get a perfect score you will have wasted your time, and even if you do it won’t help you significantly.

I see. Thanks guys! My last SAT ever! WOOHOO!

Pity though, missed a shot at superstardom. The closet perfectionist in me is rather peeved.

if someone gets 800 700 800, he should retake

Not really. A 2300 is good. A 700 is good. Only on this website is anything less than a 790 unacceptable.

I agree with College-goer in post 14.

My friend’s friend got a 2400 and retook it only to get a 2390.

BS story. There is no point in retaking a 2400. The only place to go is down. I call BS.

^^Must have been trying to get a 80/12 essay.

Edit: You know the colleges that require all scores will NOT be amused.

It’s not BS. He seriously retook a 2400 to see if he could do it again. I really don’t care if you believe me, I know his name and you could ask him on facebook if you really wanted to.
