I've finished every SAT prep book.

I have done every single SAT prep book, including the BB, which I did 3 times.

My PSAT last year was 1470, whereas my 3rd SAT score on May 2009 was 2170, with M800, R680, and W690 (10E)

Since then, I decided to take SAT for the one last time in October because I am almost done with SAT2s anyway and the summer break is long. (I have 3 SAT scores, counting 1c and 2c as one)

I have been preparing college essays and an internship as well.

By managing my time efficiently, I think it would be possible for me to study for the SAT1 even while writing the essays and doing an internship.

Although some people might think that taking SAT 3 times is sufficient and I should just stop at 2170, I believe in my high potential.

In fact, I'm a Korean immigrant who came to the U.S. 3 years ago. Looking at the huge improvement of my English ability just after a year, (1470 -> 2170) I certainly believe that I can achieve a higher score by studying diligently all summer.

I am aiming for the perfect score, 2400.

Today, I finished a whole critical reading and writing work book from Princeton Review.

Currently I have two more workbooks to do, but I don't know what to do after since I'm done with every single SAT prep book in the market.

Give me some suggestions on how to study for the SAT to achieve the perfect score.

P.S. I'm rather a slacker than a time manager. I have procrastinated a lot, but somehow I managed to do a lot of SAT prep books. Although many people achieve a higher score than 2300 by just doing the BB once, I started from a different start line as an immigrant. I realized it is just fair for me to study 10X harder than other people, and I don't mind it anymore. I'm willing to dedicate this summer to my future. I am a rising senior and this is my last chance to boost my chances into getting into the colleges that I am applying to. (Cornell ED engineering)

I sincerely ask you to help me.

Thank you.

By prep books, do you mean every type of SAT book out there? Go get a vocab book (Direct Hits is very popular and helpful, so is the Sparknotes hot 250 online) and make flash cards. This could help a lot in both your CR and W scores. Try to get in a lot of core SAT words that have appeared on past tests and the ones that seem to comes every test.

I feel like I’m your companion :wink: and I’m also a rising senior.
I’m a Chinese immigrant who came to the US 3 years ago :slight_smile: and i also want to apply to Cornell ED.(possibly Engineering :smiley: )

If you don’t mind,can I PM you???(I really want to know how you could improve from a 1470 to a 2170)

PS:and btw,I’ve just read your other post that’s about your background.(the one from the cornell discussion),and I’m really surprised that your background is so so so similar to mine! I also got a 3.8 GPA in my freshman yr.and I also couldnt take ap classes until my junior yr.and etc LOL)

@Thispakistanigir

I’m pretty strong with vocabs and only got 1 sentence completion wrong.
I finished Word Smart, and 1200 more vocabs from other book…

Also I’ve been making flashcards whenever I encountered unfamiliar vocabs while taking practice tests…
I think I’m pretty set with sentence completion, but not with short passages and critical reading…
I also make a few mistakes in writing sections as well.

@yipyip0901
haha you’re more than welcome to PM me :D

Yeah, there are a bunch of threads on CC about words used from the last two years worth of SAT’s, they’re all pretty challenging. I’ve been taking from those and my CR and W has improved.

I appreciate your advices. Is there any other suggestions than studying for vocabs?

(can you find me a link to those threads? I’m nearly stupid when I try to search for threads that I look for)

Um… at this point in time you’d be better off focusing on writing excellent essays than trying to get a 2400. Seriously, relax a little, kid. You won’t be able to get the creative juices flowing if you’re so stressed out :)

Surprisingly, I don’t think I’m not stressed out that much about trying to get the perfect score on SAT…
Although the work is quite tiring, it feels better to work that spending my time wastefully.
I think I’m more determined than ever… :slight_smile:
I’d appreciate if you could give me some advices that would help me get the 2400

@Thispakistanigir

I appreciate it!!

Any other advice than vocabs? :)

Maybe you could list out the names of all the SAT books you’ve completed? That would definitely be helpful, and I would also love to experience the improvement that you did? Did you use any particular method, or just going over wrong answers?

Mcgraw, Princeton Review, Barron’s, Gruber’s(I don’t recommend it), Blue Book, Kaplan, Sparknotes(Math sections are bad), Word Smart, and critical reading/writing work books.

Why would you not reccomend Gruber’s?

Awww maan ! I just ordered Grubbers. Waste of cash eh?

Reasons that I don’t recommend Gruber’s

  1. The reading section is not like the real test. It’s made in a weird style.
  2. The writing section calls wrong answers right. I got really confused since I studied by myself.
  3. The math section is okay…
    -> The overall difficulty is too hard not because the questions themselves are challenging, but because the reading/writing sections were composed in a weird manner. I personally don’t recommend this book.

Thanks for the information. I bought Gruber’s for my daughter to use for math and Rocket Review for reading.

Don’t listen to howon92. Gruber’s is the best book for the math section, period. Nobody uses it for W and CR anyways, as RR and Grammatix are much better for those sections, respectively. The way they categorize the math problems and the way they explain it is perfect for the math section. As long as you use it correctly, it will be a great asset. Trust me, it improved me from a 650ish to a 800.

Sorry, I saw critical reading/writing as the biggest components of prep books.
Since I was fine with the math section, I didn’t look at it that way.
Thank you for your tips!

Have you looked at the Xiggi method?
