I'm currently looking to tranfer from USC to somewhere closer to home.

Quick Stats:
College: 4.0 GPA, involved in sorority, 2 diff community service programs
High School: ~3.75/8 GPA, student govt, co-editor of newspaper and litmag
2070 new SAT (650cr, 650math, 770writ), 1350 old SAT (690cr, 660math)

I'm applying to Harvard, UPenn, Georgetown, and American as an Anthropology major.

-For my reasons for transfering, is wanting to be closer to home sufficient or do I need to flesh out that answer more (include academic reasons maybe)?

-Also, I'm stressing that I want to be apart of a great Anthropology department, so I prob need a rec from my Anthro professor right? The problem is he doesn't even know my name. Should I choose a different professor who knows me better, or somehow approach my Anthro professor?

Ok, look, obviously anyone with a 3.8 + has a good chance at any of the schools you listed. Many people here that will give you a responce are not applying to those schools...so its even harder to say what your chances are. Esp. Harvard, who does not even speak about their admissions process at all...so its kinda pointless posting chance threads :-

I would add more than one reason...(for why you want to transfer)...wanting to be close to home is a valid and good reason, but you might want to say much more than that. Maybe that you want to be more challenged.

If your main reason is "I want to be closer to home" as a Harvard admissions officer I would ask "why not any other college in the Boston area."

You need to be able to distinguish each school with several important and unique qualities.
