I've just gotten a publisher for my fiction . . .

I sent in a ~40 page story to a publisher, and they said that they'd like it if I made it into a novel. I'm pretty proud of myself, but it's just come to me: will this help in college admissions?

Merci beaucoup.

Of course it will!

Yes. How much it will help you depends on your major. If you plan on majoring in English/writing, it will probably be a significant extracurricular that can greatly impact your decision. If your majoring in something else, it will still be a very unique extra curricular activity.

I do plan on a dual history/English major. Also, from what I know about them, which is regrettably not much, the publisher is reputable (I know that's going to be a question posed at some point).

Congratulations! Yes, it should help you in college admissions because getting a novel published is HUGE at any age, let alone for a high school student, and it will look impressive on your application. Once again, congrats!

SaveD, Can you please PM me the details through which you've contacted the publisher et all? Also I have good ideas in mind, will they take this or should I present them with a rough draft of a novel?

Watch out b/cuz admissions officers are still reeling a little after Kaavya Vishwanathan... but apart from that, Congrats! - you've just gotten a "hook" for your app

I'm going to assume that's the girl who got into Harvard, but plagiarized, so everything went down the drain. The name just rings a bell.

I believe you will be considered a published author only if you can say you've been given an advance for your book. An encouraging letter from a publisher means much less and is just a nice letter.

Wow, you're so amazing, this thread was just made to brag. Of course it will help in college admissions, that's not a question, if you can't figure that out by yourself I would not want to read anything you wrote.

LOL, whoop-dee-doo? what do you want us to say. I agree with the above poster; if you need to ask that question, you are really not too bright.

Requesting a topic close. Question answered. Thank you all.

Sheesh, the jealousy of the A type personalities!

Congrats on your recent accomplishment and my very best to you and your future endevors!
