I've never been that big on praying but the older I get, the more opportunities I seem to have to get better at it. If anyone has any extra room on their list I sure would appreciate a prayer for my little sister tonight. She is battling breast cancer and took a real bad turn this morning .

( Don't flame me on this, please. I know this is not college related so I am putting it here in the Cafe as CC is the only site I spend any time. BTW I will be glad to reciprocate at any time.)

Karla, with a "K" . Mom and Dad's "euro" phase. She was born outside London on April Fool's Day in 1960. She plays up that whole London thing pretty big. Still.

Curmudgeon--So sorry to hear that. I have been praying a lot this week. I will pray for your little sister, Karla.

You did say you would reciprocate. Could you pray for my dad? He is a wonderful man who lives by himself in San Diego and is horrible at communicating. He called me on Sun., or rather his friend did, to tell me he would be having colon surgery on Tues. His friend told me he took my dad in to the emergency room last Wed. Anyway, the surgery went well, according to his doctor, but he does have cancer. So I was talking to him tonight, checking in to see how he's doing, and he says "I still can't walk." Apparently he has been having severe back pain and could barely walk last week, and his friend had come to take him to a Dr.'s appt. and he collapsed on the way to the car and his friend called 911. I find this out tonight, and it happened over a week ago. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I'm going down to see him in a couple of days. Need lots of prayers to figure out how to help my dear but non-communicative dad.

Also my hubby is trying to decide whether to accept a job offer that would mean leaving the Bay Area where we've been living ever since we both graduated from college 25 years ago. It has been quite a week.

Definitely she will be in my prayers, cancers sucks to put it mildly. On a lighter note I chuckled when you typed "Karla with a K." This is a written form, not a spoken fourm so the "with a K" was redundant. Best of luck though.

My prayers are with both of you tonight. My family just lost a close friend and I know how painful a realization comes with loss. I obsess over college admissions and grades and take those who mean the most to me for granted. They are the ones who make my future success possible.

Will do, Curmudgeon and Mstee. Sadly our family too has dealt with serious cancer. Main lesson I learned was to count my blessings. Which I do, regularly. Today I have a BIG one to count - I have a new great-niece! But my thoughts are also with you two, too.

Curmudgeon, I'm a breast cancer survivor. Prayer DOES help. I send my prayers for Karla. I suppose she knows that there are tons of books out there to help breast cancer patients through the process--how-to ones and memoirs and spiritual biographies...

Mstee, My prayers are for your dad, too. And yes, it must make it very much harder when your father won't communicate; I wish you the best with that too.

Today was at least marginally better. (No emergency phone calls to rush to her hospital bed)Those who have beat this b'tard have my greatest respect. (Right now she is in week 2 of her second round of chemo and this is some bad mammajamma. 105 fever, severe life threatening dehydration, with an ever so cheery total disorientation to boot. She scared us.

How's your Dad, Mstee?

BTW Thanks searchingavalon, I'll see that her library is stocked. Lil sis is a nurse , sometimes I wonder how good that is. Any personal favorite survivor books?

I'll pray for you as well. I heard your fiancee is not doing well either joev, I'll pray for her as well. And for Mstee. Could someone pray for my little sister? She had a seizure three weeks ago, her 2nd official, though probably her 3rd or 4th. She might have to go on dialysis. Sometimes she gets really bad headaches, well migraines. My grandma is also doing very poorly right now. The doctors are almost 100% sure she has kidney cancer and she could be on dialysis in less than 6 months. She can't even stay home alone anymore.
