Ivies for me?

I've been reading posts on cc for a while, i guess it's time to write my first, so -
entry in 2010 fall , aiming for ivies / stanford / mit
intended major: not totally sure, but definitely science-related
Stats:
- Attending a top private school in england (probably among top 3 in the country), students are put among top 1-2% in the country in terms of academic achievement
- Rank (not official): i think top 15 out of around 130, school recommended oxbridge applicant (around 35% in year group go to oxbridge/top american schools)
- Taking accelerated classes
- A-levels should be good
- SAT II: bio 760, physics 790, math II 800 (predicting 2100 for SAT I, english isn't my first language so I hope I would be forgiven)
- Taken 4 APs last month (calculus BC, physics, chemistry, biology), predicting 5545
- Recs should be great
- Awards: 2 national bronzes for physics, chemistry olympiad (did them one year in advance, aiming for a few national golds this year), math contest national silver, commended in national science essay prize; holding academic scholarships for 4 years
- ECs: piano (diploma level), rock band (bassist), school librarian, head scout, archery (founding the school team), visiting old people and performing for them, joined a few overseas volunteering trip
I don't really have high hopes on harvard / yale / princeton (though in tradition there are offers from them every year), but do I stand a chance for the rest of the top ones?

Would really appreciate for advice - thanks!

MIT looks good. They place alot of emphasis on the science and math awards, which you are clearly not lacking.

How long have you lived in an English speaking country? Unless it’s under 2 years I would not count on any break. And even then, there are tons of applicants with near perfect CR scores who never stepped foot in an English speaking country.

In all honesty, coming from a country with lots of ivy applicants, not being in the top 10% of your class (most successful international applicants will be very top of class) and a 2100 SAT score would not make you competitive at ivies.

@hmom5
yep under 2 years in an english-speaking environment, but anyway, what would be the ‘minimum’ score?
also, considering the fact that I’m in an extremely competitive environment, achieving top 15 in the year surpasses being top 5 in an average school right? (like, top 15 in exeter/andover vs top 5 in an average high school?? sorry don’t really know how to make a similar comparison)

bump…

I think you have a pretty good chance. Nice job on those sat iis! Maybe you could get a little higher sat (2200+)?

Please chance back  http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/724375-please-chance-me-brown-jhu-stanford-columbia.html

bump again lol
