Ivy Chance in Hell?

Be Honest please.

Given
SAT 2020
GPA 5.25 / 4.0
2/300 Rank
Good Recs
Really Good EC's --Would write them but I am tired :</p>

Scale:
5- OMG you are IN!!!
4- Not Bad...could be better...but hey, you have a shot
3- Err... It could be better
2- Hope for being the anomaly
1- Oh hell no!

There’s a big difference in the different Ivies; it’s a lot harder to get into Harvard or Yale than Brown or Cornell. I’d say you’re probably around a 3.5 for the lower tier Ivies and a 3 for the high tier ones. Your SAT really needs to be higher, but other than that, your stats look really good. I wouldn’t give anyone a 5, if that makes you feel better. There’s no such thing as a shoe-in at an Ivy.

The above is a bit confusing. Indeed several land grant schools at Cornell have much higher than average acceptance rates than are typical for ivies, however Harvard’s 7% admit rate and Brown’s 9% are pretty darn close.

The unfortunate truth is most will not get into any ivy. A 2020 makes it a big uphill battle. But stranger things have happened. A great EC, being first generation from an underrepresented state or country…it’s not impossible.

But more importantly, with your stats there are many great schools you’ll get into, so don’t get stuck on just 8 schools. Good luck!

2-----no offense dude, but there are better applicants than you, but you never know. But top 10-30 schools are where you should be mainly applying to. The 2020 is the only thing only you back from that 2 going to a 4. Maybe retake tests in december?

2college, does being an immigrant from a severely underrepresented country help your chances? I’m a permanent resident now though after 12 years in the states.

There’s really no reason a low (your 2020 isn’t terrible) SAT score will keep you out of the ivies, though as previously mentioned it will be an uphill battle. If your ECs and Recs are as good as you say there’s no reason you can’t get into Cornell or some of the lower level ivies.

Your test scores and GPA are enough if your EC’s really are spectacular. Heck, that GPA and those test scores, combined with your high class rank, will get any athlete in, so they know you can do the work. What are your EC’s, and what is your unweighted GPA? At my son’s public high school, EVERYTHING is weighted…even regular “college prep” classes are weighted 1.25, and the honors and AP courses are weighted a whopping 1.5, so a large percentage of the class has a GPA over 5.0.
