We're all on the "same boat"...I don't see anything special but goood luck!!!

Mad leadership + clear passions for political/social issues and acting = something special

i've always wondered, i'm referred to as president of lincoln douglas debate team... does this make me el capitan by default?

No it doesn't.

damn it... well then, i have to actually start trying harder to get that title, although i'm not sure i need to, i'm pretty much the only one who talks... which is bad...

ok clarified, technically i am captain as well, as i hold choice over policy etc. this means i have forgotten to mention this to my ed/ea schools, since i thought president implied captain... damn it

ahh dont worry to much about it.

Wait, how does OP know she is a National Merit Finalist already? I thought we didn't find out until February...

nothing really hookish.

IB English 4
IB Math Studies 2

are u sure about these scores? how could u get a 2 in math studies thats like the easiest level of math + u have a decent math sat score...
and a 4 in eng but a high mark in lit and cr..hmm thats a bit odd..

those aren't scores... those are the levels of math or levels of english. As in, my second year of math studies. Ah yes, and the national merit finalist... i meant national merit scholar. My subconscious mind wrote the finalist part, sorry.

And by scholar, you mean semifinalist, right?

You don't find out if you're a scholar until after you find out if you're a finalist, which, as we have established, has not been released yet.

does everyone need a hook to get in?

are normal people just automatically out?

normal being no scientific research, never having started an organization, no huge awards besides the regular nmsemifinalist....just your average student government, forensics, some sports, good grades, around 2100-2200 sats??

unfortunately normal people are automatically out...

think of one person, a friend, or anyone who went to harvard. he/she was defintely unique.

...harvard just isn't for the average person.

i would have to disagree. admissions is a game and the only people who decide who wins are the admissions officers. yes, the "average person" won't get in, but the people who go to haravrd and yale arent like superhuman, theyre "normal people." Yes, the commitees are looking for something special, but that can be different for every person. i have a friend who got into harvard last year (she ended up choosing stanford) and she's a completely normal girl.

"unfortunately normal people are automatically out......harvard just isn't for the average person"

i agree but normal and average are not synonymous

And, yes, she has to mean national merit semifinalist or commended scholar. They haven't released/determined finalists yet.

I also knew a guy from a rural town in Missouri (pop. <9,000) who got into Harvard and other than his 35 on the ACT was very normal.
