ivy league amdissions/georgia tech

hi, so my dream college is georgia tech and it is so for a great variety of reasons. ill also of course apply for other schools, ivy league schools. im a junior and so far ive taken 2 ap classes and will take 2 more next year plus 2 duel enrollment classes. i have no sports or volunteer hours, basically nothing. i do have some special events and competitions that i did. my gpa is a 3.5, and my current semester grades are awful and my act score is a 31 and sat is a 2150. im a white male, russian and not a citizen yet. im in the lower section of the income bell curve, quite low. now what my question is is what are my chances of getting into georgia tech with those facts? will my chances improve greatly if i make straight a’s my senior year given that ive been struggling with severe depression and bipolar disorder for years and this years coarse load was heavy. i was also for 8 years with a verbally and emotionally abusive step father, and now mentally im fine ever since i went on buproprion. now when i write my admissions essay should i mention all of these facts? will them seeing that ive greatly improved academically and socially, by socially i mean volunteer stuff which i will be doing this summer and next semester of highschool. oh and sorry for all the non capitalizations and no apostrophes, im writing in this in a hurry so i can get some sleep.

  1. Currently you have a 3.5 culm GPA
  2. You’re doing “awful” this semester – let’s say 3.0 (how is this evidence of colleges seeing your improvement? You’re sinking, according to your words)
  3. You get a 4.0 next semester (magic?). Your culm GPA at time of application is…. Voila 3.5 – a near impossibility for GT and any super selective college. You need to speak w/your guid counselor on affordable schools that match your academic performance to date. They’ll be able to suggest schools that have been successfully targeted by previous students.
  4. Most schools won’t require an essay. If it does, you want to speak about what you bring to the college in a very confined space. Spking about overcoming depression is not a good topic fit at all.
  5. You need to turn around your current grades – this is infinitely more important than some ECs.
  6. Google “common data set Georgia tech” and look at section C – this will tell you the stats of admitted students. Then you can see if your “dream school” is a fantasy or not.

are you instate? You have little to no chance of GT admission as an OOS applicant with your stats and your description of your ECs. You might have a slim chance as a Georgia resident.

I think you should look for schools that match your grades/SAT better. Yes you have good scores…but they are not ivy level. That is okay. Find schools where you are at the 75% or higher.
