I have a 3.8 unweighted GPA (B’s in either difficult hnrs. courses or AP courses). While I understand that a 3.8 unweighted isn’t a bad GPA, other students in my school, many of whom have taken very difficult courses, have a 4.0 unweighted.
Will this significantly affect my chances of getting into an ivy league or into top BA/MD programs (Brown PLME, Northwestern HPME)?
Thanks!
what courses? Brown and NU BAMD are two of the most competitive programs in the world, anything small will put you out of the running

Yes. I had a friend who went through the process and interviewed at all of the most selective programs (incl. northwestern and rochester) and said that all of these kids had amazing accomplishments on a national level while still holding down extremely high GPAs, and this is just to get an interview. I would say to still apply to brown’s bsmd since they only require essays, but for the others, there’s practically no chance.
Ah man, I’m not feeling too confident haha.

What do you think this tells an Adcom of a BS/MD program. It tells them that when you’re in a hard course, you don’t get excel… that doesn’t bode well for BS/MD admissions.
This doesn’t mean that you can’t excel as an undergrad and get into med school the traditional way.
Don’t focus on ivies, etc,…focus on getting into a good school, getting As, preparing for the MCAT, and getting thru med school.
