hey there! i’m just a sophomore in high school. my weighted gpa is about about 4.7, but my unweighted is at a 3.2. almost all my classes except my elective and gym/health was an honors course, with one of them being an AP course. i’m planning to take a lot more APs in my junior and senior year. i’m also taking 4-5 sat subject tests.
should i be worried about my poor unweighted gpa if i want to get into a 7 year med program in a big school like UPenn?
(also, i apologize if i put this forum in the wrong category)
Aside from the fact that Penn does not have a 7 year med program, yes, you should assume that a 3.2 GPA will impact your options. Nobody outside your HS cares about your weighted GPA.
Carefully read through all the BS/MD results by year on this board, you can understand what takes to get into a BS/MD program. Except Brown, there is no other ivies has a BS/MD program. As said in prior posting, the Unweighted GPA is all college wanted to see and you are not in line with acceptance range of any BS/MD program right now.
Yes, you should because all the accepted BS/MD students are at the top of their classes and have near-perfect SAT, ACT scores. Why 7-year accelerated programs? There are not many left and many converted to 8-year. UPenn does not have any combined BS/MD program (have you done your research on any BS/MD programs?). Brown PLME is the only BS/MD among 8 Ivies and it is even harder to get in than Harvard. How’re your SAT 2 subject test scores (you’ll need at least Bio & Chem)?
