Ivy League chances of an average student?

Hi everyone. I’m new here and a high school junior. I will be taking my SAT and ACT once this year and once next year.

I have been a very average student all my life, with GPAs averaging anywhere between 2.5 and 3.5 but never going anywhere up from there. The most I have ever scored is 3.6, and that was probably in my 7th grade. Also, I never took an interest in any kind of sports, never joined any teams or any of that.

I only found my motivation in my sophomore year of high school and I began working hard. I scored 4.3 last year, which, for me, was an astronomical leap.

I want to major in Mechanical Engineering, possibly from an Ivy League.

I have almost all AP classes lined up for my senior year and I already have about 200 years of community service, volunteering at a local hospital and a retirement home.

My question is, do I have the faintest chance of getting into an Ivy League?

If I do, what kind of score will I have to get in my SAT? And if I don't, what can I do now to increase or improve my chances?

What’s your overall GPA? Sophomore year of high school isn’t too late to bring your grade up, since colleges only look at your high school GPA.

If it’s under, like, 3.6…honestly, there are so many students with high GPAs applying to these colleges that they’re going to need to see a really good reason to give one of their spots to you. Are you a URM/legacy/first gen student? Still, miracles do happen, and there’s nothing wrong with applying.

A competitive score would be in the 700+ range in every subject, with most applicants I’d imagine with 730+ in every subject. Obviously, the higher you can get it, the better.

Why do you want to go to an Ivy League? There are many less competitive engineering schools with excellent programs, such as UC Berkeley and Michigan(still very competitive though). Colleges like Rose Hulman, WPI, RIT, RPI, any Institute of Technology really, will usually offer a good engineering program.
