Hello! I really like the new Ivy sub-forums, but I just think it’s a little unfair that only all the Ivy Leagues get their own class of 2009 subforums, while other great schools (like the top 25’s) are neglected. In a way, this just perpetuates the elitist and exclusive attitude that many are trying to break down.
Perhaps the frequently-visited schools in the top 25 forum should get their own sub-forums, too? Mainly the ones with higher post counts, like: Stanford, MIT, Georgetown, U of Chicago, Duke, etc. :o
I agree with you, though giving those specific schools also “perpetuates the elitist and exclusive attitude that many are trying to break down.” Although it would be fair to give every school a specific class of 2009 board, giving a subforum to only the most frequented schools’ forums makes the most sense.
I came over here to post on a similar note so it’s good to see a thread already started. I think the whole subsystem should be abolished and colleges should be in alphabetical order. I think any college kid or parent should be able to figure out where HYP are in the alphabet. Otherwise, the forum is implicitly and explicitly supporting one particular ranking system.
I agree. It’s already unfair how the ivies are on the main page, but some of the top25 schools, which receive more/just as much postage you have to go through another screen. I actually hate the 2009 subforums, but that’s probably just me
yay I’m not the only one! My main issue is I don’t really feel like I should post there (as I’m a junior), but all of my buddies are now princetonians, who only post on the 2009 subforum. So there’s this huge divide between the forums. I personally think we should stop adding more forums- we want to keep cc united
Well, those schools are already advertised enough by being among the best in the country - they already have the most apps, so they are given extra status (though that may give them more apps as it is)
its a never ending cycle of power in the ivy’s, and its too late for change
Some schools that get a lot of applications aren’t posted on a lot. I love dartmouth, but it’s board is not the most lively. P-ton is one of the only ivies that frequently uses its 2009 subforum
I just checked out the number of threads for each ivy under its 2009 subforum. The 7 non-princeton ivys have at the most 11 threads (dartmouth, followed by upenn at the top) and most are inactive. Princeton has 37. I don’t see much point to the subforums when for 7/8 schools they are barely used at all
