I am currently a junior in high school and am a track athlete. I run the 100m and 200m with my times almost on TRACK (see what I did there?) with ivy league’s current team times. However, my grades are not so great, having a 3.6 gpa. I was wondering if this would be a huge deal breaker or if they lower the standards for track and field athletes, granted I did get looked at.
3.6 unweighted is not necessarily a deal breaker. Search ‘academic index’ to get a feel for the combination of standardized test scores and GPA that Ivies want to see from their athletes.
Alright, I got my AI and am now wondering what would be decent for an athlete? BTW mine is a little under 200.
176 is the absolute floor. Athletes as a group must be within 1 standard deviation of the AI of the rest of the student body. That’s probably 200-215 depending on the school. IMO “a little under 200” can work if you’re a very good athlete. As always, best advice is to contact coach with times and academic stats and see what he has to say.
Will do! Thanks for all the help.
