I am a Freshman in high school I got a 3.7 GPA first semester and 4.3 HPA because i slacked off.
If i get a 4.0 GPA/5.8 Weighted for the rest of high school, do i still have the possibility to get into an IVY league school

Ethnicity: White
School Type: Public
Act score:N/A
Sat Score: N/A
I am taking 5 AP's next year and 1 honors
Will be taking 6 AP's Junior and Senior year.
I do lots of ec activities, but I am just wondering if my grades would be acceptable.

Absolutely! You don't need a 4.0 GPA to get into an Ivy league school, or even HYP. As long as you show improvement, take challenging courses, extra-curriculars, etc, you definately still have a chance. In your extra-curriculars, show commitment and try to get into a leadership position by taking initiative!

You will need very good SAT and/or ACT scores. In fact, you'll also need to take SAT subject tests for most (if not all) of the Ivies.

You can do a lot of test prep yourself starting now and end up with scores that really show your highest potential. Part of the key is starting early with preparing yourself and working as hard as you can.

Yes, you can overcome a less-than-perfect freshman year, and people are admitted who do not have perfect grades in the other years of high school as well.

Figure out what works for you in classes. Don't be distracted by other students in your class. For example, many asians in their spite try to brag about how they get As without studying. Do whatever you need to get straight As (i.e. start studying for tests 2-3 days before if you need to do that), etc. You will be much smarter and much better off actually developing those skills. You wont just magically start getting straight As.

thanks for the advice

I know i need to take the SAT/ACT, but i haven't taken them since i am only a freshman

BTW, i would a 4.8 if I would have gotten straight As
Thanks for the Advice

You definitley have a chance at Ivy League schools. I'm a junior right now, and I think if there's one thing I could go back in time and change when I was a feshman is to start building on leadership positions.

Since when is a 3.7 bad? That's somewhere near average for the ivies! You do no need a 4.0 so yes 'recovery' is more than possible. Just do your best throughout high school and by the looks of thing you'll maintain a high enough gpa. Prep for SAT I and II, especially the II's (just because in my opinion SAT I really isn't difficult to prepare for) and you'll be fine.

I really don't understand what leadership positions are? Is it just student council? Can any of you provide examples. I am trying to get into Princeton by the way

Leadership, to me at least (and hopefully to the admissions guys), means like being the Captain of your school's basketball team vs. just being on it; being the president of the student body vs. a student council member; club president vs. club member; founder of a club vs. joiner of one.

But ill say that all Ivies are unpredicable..one of my friends got in yale and he had likea 95 GPA and 1900s SAT..while my other friend got rejected from brown and she had a 103 GPA with 2200s SAT.. also just keep in mind that ivies arnt the only good colleges out there. MIT, Stanford, Duke..etc are outstanding schools that arent ivies..ivy just means a group of the first colleges in the United States

5.8 Weighted. Having all normal classes is a 4.0 with straight A's. Honors=5.0 and AP=6.0.
I will be taking 5 AP classes and a Honors class, which adds up to a 5.8. Technically the Maximum Weighted is a 6.0, but I need my language classes to graduate and it is only honors.
