I don't think I'll be able to make it to the Ivy league but I was thinking of alternative colleges to do a finance major in. Is University of Notre Dame Mendoza good? How well does it fare compared to NYU Stern, Michigan University, Northwestern, Georgetown etc.?

I am assuming that you are asking about undergrad finance programs? Here’s the list of top finance programs. Most of the schools are not ivy leagues. http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/business-finance
Or if you are interested in top online programs in finance then see this link http://www.usnews.com/education/online-education/finance-bachelors-degree
Hope it helped.

Mendoza is good for finance but better for Accounting. NYU/Stern and U of Michigan/Ross are the best for fiance on your list and thus better than Mendoza. Northwestern does not have an undergraduate business/finance major. Georgetown is good and it is better at placing kids at New York investment banks than most schools (I have seen rankings of placement that put it very high up but lower than Penn/Wharton and Harvard). Overall all of your mentioned schools are good. Thus look at the other factors in making you decision.
