Hi guys, I’m currently debating between University of Notre Dame (pre-admitted to Mendoza) vs USC Marshall vs BU Questrom (Presidential Scholarship) vs. Emory Goizeuta vs. University of Toronto Rotman Commerce.
Factors to consider: 1) Career Goals: Investment Banking or Consulting 2) Reputation of all the colleges, especially how they fare in admissions to top business graduate schools such as HBS and Stanford Graduate School of Business 3) Money is somewhat of a factor, but relatively minor to the rest
Thanks for all your help!
Those are all great choices in very different geographical locations. Are you able to check them out in person? That would give you a better feel and more in depth information.
Mendoza all the way. I chose to go to one that was ranked higher (#1) than Mendoza in what I wanted to study specifically in the business school of my current university, but I definitely regret not choosing Mendoza. I have a friend there and he absolutely loves it.
Notre Dame definitely makes huge efforts to eliminate the disadvantage of not being in a major city by provided myriad resources.
however, the weather gets very cold, but unless you cannot stand the cold that should not be too bad. Another factor to consider is how Catholic Notre Dame is and that most of their undergraduate student body is Catholic and that can be an issue for some people. But in terms of reputation and opportunities Mendoza definitely will give you one of the best, if not the best stuff for undergraduate business.
Do you have a preference for where you want to work? These are all good schools for the record - congrats on your opportunities. AFAIK though, none of these are “target” schools for NYC investment banking. So I think part of your decision should be - where could you see yourself living after grad school? Any of these schools will be very well respected in the area that it’s in.
Do you have to take out loans for any of these?
What is your net cost for each of these schools?
Mendoza will offer the most opportunities (and it IS a target) but if cost is a concern, remember you can only borrow 5.5K for your first year, so think carefully before you saddle your parents with loans.
You’ll have to work for five years typically before you apply for b-school, so think about the industry you may want to work in after undergrad, it doesn’t have to be finance or consulting. Undergrad college is a small factor in b-school admissions, biggest factor will be work experience.
