Hi, so I recently got a C on my calc II semester grade in junior year. I knew very well that junior year is a crucial year where many colleges look up to. But, I was very shocked and I think that it’s the end for my dream to go to ivy league. Would I have a chance for being an ESL student also with good SAT scores and other standardized score as well as my essay college to go to ivy league school especially harvard. I know that it seems crazy to hope for harvard when I have a C in transcript. But I’d like to know if I still have a chance for ivy
Why does it HAVE to be an ivy? Why Harvard? Unless you have a connection, Harvard is a reach, regardless of grades. They reject kids with perfect GPA’s and SATs. They don’t have the space.
There are close to 4000 universities in the US.
The choices are varied and all over the place.
You don’t have to go to an ivy to be successful.
The C won’t help, but no one semester grade will completely destroy anyone’s chances at an Ivy. You can ask your guidance counselor what grades will show up on the transcript sent to colleges (some HS have every marking period and others only show the final grade).
That said, I’d strongly recommend that you give up the idea of a dream school like Harvard and instead work to create a solid college application list that includes reach, match, and safety schools that appear affordable (find out your parents’ budget and run the net price calculator for each school) and that you would be happy to attend. The people I see who get hurt by the college admission process are the ones who focus on one or two hyper-competitive schools and then don’t get in. Cast a wide net and recognize that (assuming no major hook) Harvard (and all top tier colleges for that matter) is a reach for pretty much everyone.
Did anyone look over your essay?
