Hey you guys,
I've been doing some ivy league track/xc roster research, and i've noticed some recruits are labeled "Mid-Distance". I do realize this most likely consists of 800m-1600m runners, and i was curious to know more about the title "mid-distance". Do these runners run cross country? do mediocre distance runners but strong milers and 800m runners typically become recruited as mid-distance guys? are MD guys less sought after in the ivy league? (i run xc and track, and i feel i may be a more mid-distance guy).
Any other knowledge or insight on this topic would be great.

please comment!

Hi Teddy
Here’s what I know – my daughter was a DIII runner, but in high school, she ran with girls who were recruited at Princeton and Yale. I know girls are different from boys, but I’m just telling you – both these girls ran mid-distance and cross country.

See if your times hold up for recruits vs walk ons for DI (if you google it, you should find a table or it’s been posted in this forum before). The good thing about track is that you can see where you stand really easily. Your times are your times.

Good luck.

From what I’ve observed, 400/800 kids do not usually run xc, but may do modified training with the team during xc season. They are listed as “mid-distance” on the track roster. 800/1500 kids generally do run xc officially. They are listed as “distance(s)”.
