However I fear that OBW is never going to "get it".

Sigh. Ain't it the truth?? Maybe he will "get" that as long as he persists in his quest to spread the word of the evils of the "Ivy Obsessed", we will persist in our quest to respond to this broken record.....
By the way, I did a brief bit of research.. just perusing a few of the OP's most recent threads, I found the following who either attempted to suggest how the OP could come across in a more positive way, or who threw up their hands in frustration (or just threw up). It's a bit more than "5 or 6":

Yes, some of us are more vocal than others. I suspect many have stopped bothering to read these threads or have given up in frustration.

There are what I call "the vocal few", the same five or six (see above posts) who have to bash me because they are not tough-skinned enough to hear what I have to say....it goes against the grain of what most CC'ers believe.

The majority of the people who make the points you are trying to make do so without drawing such hostility from CC. Every time you wonder why that is the case, read this thread -- especially post #51. Don't be afraid to let self-analysis remove you from your imaginary throne.

oldbutwise: BTW, the plural of parent is parents. Every time you add an apostrophe to a plural, as in parent's in a sentence in which you are not employing a possessive or a contraction, I wince. If you are old I would think your education stressed this; grammar used to be considered very important.

Just for your information, I am a product of public school and an unremarkable state school for both BA and PhD. Although I was accepted an an Ivy for my PhD, circumstances prevented me from attending. This certainly has been a liability in the academic career I pursued. I have also posted elsewhere that my son turned down an Ivy for a school he thought fit him better. This was fine with me. My only concern was that he learn to focus and apply himself so that one day he could realize his dreams and goals, exactly the same concern I had for my daughter. The world is not the world you knew; in this increasingly competitive environment our children will not be permitted to coast.

I logged in because my named appeared on a posted list; I had vowed not to post on any of your threads. However, the proper use of apostrophes in expert communications is something that should be addressed. In fact, I also make this correction for my community college students, albeit in a much more accepting manner. After all, they're there to learn, not teach.
