did anyone get a rejected email?

@foodluver: thank you.

No rejections yet? Huh… I’m gathering my application materials tonight.

@ameripen I guess it’s good news though! Good luck! Post how it goes!! I hope you get accepted:)

I was accepted to the APPLE program, and I am really excited !

How does a typical day at the Ivy Scholars program look like?
What are some highlights of the program for alumni of the program?

Thanks!

@LiveLaughLuv… Look at the prospectus. You’ll find the information for which you are searching.

Are you from the U.S.? I read that twenty-five per cent of the students are from other countries. Just curious.

@ ameripen

Ya, I’m from the US. I’m from the west coast. What about you?

I’m from a mountain time zone public school.

@ameripen, so am I! Just curious, what state are you from??

I’ve done a LOT of research, and it doesn’t look like anybody’s ever been rejected from this program(or at least publicly stated so), despite claims of a 20% acceptance rate. Does anybody know anyone who has been denied admission?

Also, a question about the application: For the personal statement, did you devote a single paragraph to each prompt? I’m doing this right now, and some paragraphs(especially the leadership and scholarly interest ones) are turning out to be REALLY long.

^ hey! So I don’t know too much about the administration process, but apparently, only 100 kids get into the apple program and 60 (or 50) into the global leaders one.

Also, about the essays: I didnt structure them like that. Instead of writing one paragraph to answer each question, I just wrote basically 2 essays that answered all the questions. I tried doing your method at first, but I found it easier to simply answer all the questions in 2 essays instead of 5 or 6 chunky paragraphs! I hope this helps! ^.^

Also! I forgot to mention, you can find the exact amount of students admitted in the brochure/booklet PDF on the ivy scholars website.

For the topics, my paragraph lengths varied greatly. I would just stucture it in a way that flows, and I feel that writing about the prompts separately would distract from that.

Foodluver, Az. And you?

I am looking forward to meeting international kids!

So would it be better to write the statement of interest in this form:

Question
Answer

Question
Answer

Question
Answer

or would it be better to write it like a typical essay that is connected between each paragraph? As I’m having a hard time writing it like an essay lol :/

I think they want you to write in essay form…

Ameripen, I am from the land of potatoes… ID hahaha;)
Have you replied to the email yet?

And I agree! I believe the are asking for it in essay form. However, if you’re unsure, you can always email the director!:)

@chapen11: what might be helpful is brainstorming leadership experiences you have. What did you learn from them? What were your weaknesses? How did you overcome them? What were your strengths and how did they help you? What did you get out of the experience, and what effect did your leadership role have on your community? What were you able to accomplish?

I just sat at my computer and made a list of all leadership positions I had recently. Also, it’s not always the most highest holding position that gets you the most “brownie points” haha;) it’s about how many people you were able to affect. I wouldn’t automatically write about the “best” position you have/had. If you didn’t do anything as president of national hand-holding club haha (I totally made that up) besides warm your seat, I wouldn’t dedicate a whole essay to it.

I know I went off on a total tangent there (sorry) but I hope it kinnnda helped you or other ivy scholar essay-writers! Good luck:D

What did everybody write about in the last prompt? “The right fit and match: why you believe you are ready for this challenging academic program”

I’m having trouble writing things that I haven’t already mentioned in the first 5 prompts…

Hi,
I applied Early Decision to the Global Leaders Program and I haven’t heard back from them yet They said April 5th is the last day they’d notify you by… has anyone heard back yet?!

Also, about the essay…I answered each question individually but to be honest, I could have written a much better statement of interest. I also didn’t list any PSAT/SAT scores as I haven’t taken any of these and will take my first SAT in May.

Has anyone heard back?!

still waiting t hear back on the Global Leaders Program also. Good luck… hope some good news shows up soon!
