Ivy Scholars at Yale University

Haha is there anyone who has NOT been accepted?

I am sure that they must though. However, don’t forget that the CC community is made up of a certain type of people, if you get what I mean.

Haha…in that case I just hope I live up to the CC community’s standards!

What did you guys think of your essays? On some bits, I really didn’t know what to write about. The best ones were the leadership experience and intellectual interest ones. The rest were…rather wishy washy.

@happykidsmom

I think some of the people who posted earlier in the thread were accepted to Grand Strategy. I don’t think there is another thread for GS.

@dubyawhy

I think people who have not gotten accepted would post that they’ve been rejected, and I am pretty sure there are people rejected as the acceptance rate (as I’ve heard) is about 20%.

Does anyone know if it’s okay to go over the page limit for the personal statement?

Does anyone know where I can find actual admissions statistics? I have heard this 20% acceptance rate mentioned, but I can’t find any reference to it anywhere but in this forum. I would love to find some other data. Thanks!

@dubyawhy

I believe that I have read on these forums in the past that people have gone over the word limit. However, personally, I would advise you not to because 3 pages should be sufficient to answer the questions. (Mine was 2 and a half pages long). In order to achieve this length, I went in depth on 3 of my ec’s, although I do many more.Furthermore, abiding to the word limit is very important in college, so I guess it’s a good idea to start doing that now.I think they set this limit because they’re not going to want to read really lengthy essays from everyone. What is the main thing causing you to want to go over the word limit?

I hope that I’ve been helpful :).

you’ve been incredibly helpful! :)

Would it be acceptable to decrease the font size or page margins then? haha. My current statement is exactly 3 pages long.

I mainly need to go over for a few reasons:

my first paragraph (the leadership prompt) is literally a whole page long. It looks like an eyesore, so I just wanna split it up into a few paragraphs haha.

For my intellectual interests, I only touched on a few facets of political philosophy as well as a tiny sentence on economics. I really would like to add more.

I HAVE SO MUCH MORE TO SAYYYY ;(

Font size, I wouldn’t decrease. Make sure you use Times New Roman font size 12. Moreover, make sure that you are using single lined spacing…I know my computer automatically uses 1.5, so do check. However, I guess there’s nothing wrong with decreasing the margin width.

Hey superstar…assuming you’re in the English curriculum…

what did you get for your GCSEs?

I think it is acceptable to use size ten font if you need.

For those who have been accepted, has anyone received a second e-mail from the program? Thanks!

I haven’t received a second e-mail from the program. Also, in my email, I can check whether or not if the other person (aka the ivy scholars people) has opened/read my e-mail or not, but they haven’t yet… So I am guessing they’ll just read it/ open it on April 15th? (The date they said to respond by)

how do you confirm whether they received my email or not? and you can not make first deposit until their on-line payment is working, right?

For some reason, I can check through my e-mail if the other person has checked it or not. (It’s an Asian e-mail + It doesn’t work like that for most e-mails, so I doubt it would work for your e-mail.) And yes, you can’t make deposit until their on-line payment is working

I DONT KNOW IF I SHOULD SEND MY APP…

It would appear everything is done, but I just can’t bring myself to click the “Send” button on my email!!!

Haha I keep worrying if my application has flaws in it.

@dubyawhy: can you send app by email? i thought you have to mail out.

For those that applied for financial aid… Did anyone hear from them yet? Or does anyone know around what time we usually hear from them?

@mssports: I emailed them and they actually said they prefer it if you email it as a PDF. But I suppose only if you’re international and the fee is waived.

SENT IT…WISH ME LUCK!

Hey guys, should I write down the AP tests that I am taking this year, because they will not be on my transcript since I am self-studying them. Also, is there anywhere to put other extracurriculars and awards other than the essay. I will talk about 4 main leadership things, but I have other ECs and prestigious prizes that could help me out. Thanks
