Ivy to Ivy Transfer Question. Help Appreciated!

I'm currently a freshman at UPenn in the School of Arts & Sciences, and I'm thinking about transferring to a peer school, but I'm worried about my subpar 1st semester GPA. I'm definitely going to major in some aspect of the humanities (history, cinema studies, etc.), and I did well in those types of classes last semester: 2 A's and an A-. However, I took Calc II because it was a requirement and I bombed it with a C-. Now my GPA is a 3.35. Would that make it really difficult for me to transfer to places like Brown, Columbia, and Northwestern? Realistically, I only took the class for the Penn requirement, and I would not have taken it (or needed to take it) if I were at any of the aforementioned schools.

I have strong high school grades/classes and EC's (strong enough to get me into Penn), and I have a 2350 SAT (800 CR, 750 M, 800 W). On campus at Penn, I'm involved in my a capella group, a preprofessional club, and a concert planning club.

Basically, my question is would it be easier for me to transfer to these schools because I'm already at Penn? And would it matter that I only took that math class for a Penn requirement? Any help/advice on this would be much appreciated. Thanks so much in advance!

Well being at UPenn definitely is a plus as far as marketing yourself as a transfer applicant. I wouldn’t worry too much about the 3.35 GPA. It’s still very impressive at an Ivy, and you have the HS stats to back yourself up. Unfortunately, I don’t think you will get the chance to explain your Calc II grade, so I think it will still factor in your overall profile as a transfer. I don’t think colleges will take the time to look into whether or not it was a Penn req. You still have good chances at NU, Brown, Columbia in my opinion. Good luck!

Can anyone else provide any input on this? It would mean a lot.
