ivyleague recruitment

how do i get recruited by an ivy (specifically harvard) for tennis or track?

kick ass...

You have to demonstrate you can compete at the college level by being named at least all county in your chosen sport. Winning a county or state championship or placing in, say, the top 5 in either would be plus. National recognition in your sport would probably be a real biggie. You'd have to have decent grades and SATs of course. And you'd have to let the coaches know you want to apply. Contact them early on, visit the campus. Talk to them. Maybe have your coaches write them a letter. Get their attention so they can help you.

If you run track, check out the athletic page of ivy sites for times

if your competitive, have your coach contact their coach

I have no clue about tennis

I contacted the coach personally..and got an offer from Yale..For basketball though.

I noticed that Columbia has soccer at an "Intercollegiate" level. Will intercollegiate leveled teams have the same amount of push as say a Division I leveled sport? (In terms of admissions)

Well, I don't know why this got deleted the first time, but you will need a heck of a lot more than All-County Awards to play tennis at an Ivy League. These schools are all pretty strong when it comes to tennis and will require a sectional and possibly national USTA ranking that is competitive with their recruiting pool. I would say top #250 in the country in the 18 and unders.

what do u run and what are ur times?

what about track? how competitive is track in harvard?

what events

Just look at prior meets and compare yourself with the Harvard guys. Some of the times aren't too bad. But there are some times on there that most guys in high school can run (i.e. 2:12-800m, 3:00-1000m,). So if you're a decent runner, it looks like you may easily be able to walk on but your times would have to be pretty good to get a pull from the coach. (i.e. sub-4:30 mile).

How do you get recruited in general by the Ivies?

Solicit yourself--no one else will. I play lacrosse, in an untraditional area. I have to make videos and resumes, and send them off. But it works. They'll bite if you are of the right caliber.
