iWork or Microsoft Office for my Macbook

Without a doubt, Microsoft Office beats iWork to a pulp. I have both on my MacBook Pro, but almost never use iWork.

I'm with Eloquence. I really only need iWork for the most basic of functions, and it's cheaper than Office. As long as it can export and import Office files (which it can), I see no reason to use extra money. If, however, you're going to be needing the programs for really important reasons all the time, I do suggest Office.

If all you need is an office suit that handles basic tasks and can export Microsoft Office filetypes when needed, there are free office suits to handle that. Neo/OpenOffice is the way to go unless you have some clear, specific, and important reason to spend money on iWork or the outrageously expensive Microsoft Office. Besides, there is no need to hesitate. If you find that for some reason free office suites do not meet your needs, chances are you can always buy either iWork or Microsoft Office at your local bookstore or electronic store. Once you hand over your cash and open the box, however, there is no going back.

Hey got a macbook for my christmas, and put Iworks onto it… but was just wondering would i also be able to put microsoft office on the same macbook ? Or would I have to uninstall the I works first ? As I prefer Iworks for Keynote and Numbers, but prefer microsoft office for Word ?

MS-Office and iWork are two completely different applications, there is no problem with having both installed. I do. I like iWork, particularly Keynote, when compared to PowerPoint. Numbers is in many ways more intuitive than Excel. Still, I receive tons of documents from other people, so I need Word and Excel on my Mac.
