Hypothetical
What if the number of scholars is based on the amount of money needed by each scholar. Let’s ;pretend there is $100,000 to give away each scholar needs a different amount. If all the scholars need $2000 then 50 students are helped but if one needs all $40,000 then the number of students helped reduces. It would make sense then why students would be notified over time. It is a much more fluid process than just each student receives $40,000 if I understand it each student receive unmet need up to $40,000. Theoretically the number of scholars is based on how much money each scholar will need. Does any of that make sense? Or am I just grasping for straws.
Grasping. JKCF doesn’t know what your need is until you’re selected and send in your documents. They choose kids assuming they’re giving them all 40k/yr.
I don’t know why accept and reject emails aren’t sent at the same time since you don’t have to have been gapped by your school to be a JKCF scholar, but maybe it has something to do with alternates/just in case a student turns down the program for any reason.
Anyway, I wouldn’t hold out for anything at this point, since it looks like the scholar portal link WAS consistent with who actually won. Don’t take it personally, y’all, and good luck with future competitions and your college careers <3
@CourtneyThurston then that is what the Foundation should say. Some people are holding off making a school choice based on this scholarship it seems like the courteous thing to do would be to say that the winners have been announced instead of when you call be told that people will be notified until the end of the month. And I do take it personally I think all of us do… Thanks for the well wishes.
I mean you basically already know, so you can make your college decision. Best of luck
Idk. I’m not trying to give anyone hope or anything but my friend didn’t receive any calls or other emails and she didn’t have the scholar indication on her dashboard either but she still got an email. If they are still choosing scholars people still do have a chance.
They did not notify everyone yet. They did state that they will be notifying people up until May 1st (the latest). No need to push yourself down. However, only 40 people will get it. Good Luck to everyone.
Up to 70. Still holding out hope! http://www.jkcf.org/semifinalists-for-nations-largest-college-scholarship-announced/
Congratulations to those who have been notified so far! Nail-biting excitement around here!
Only 40 outside people get it. 70 is the total number of scholars. so 30 Young Scholars who were selected way back in middle school.
(I think)
@CourtneyThurston , the article above LOOKED like it was just talkin’ about the ‘high school seniors’… it’s POSSIBLE that since they whittled it down to such a high number pool (628) that they MIGHT pick up to 70. ?
Either way… I’m holding my breath til they have a press release naming everyone.
And am also JUMPING every time I hear the gmail notification on our phones. LOL
Unless I’m confusing myself and now I understand what you mean about how they get the total number. haha
Good luck everyone! As we move on to other things in life, thanks everyone for being very supportive and encouraging. Special shoutout to @CourtneyThurston
Yeah I’m not really sure anymore haha In prior years typically they selected 30-50 outside scholars and then like 30-40 young scholars from their middle-high school program.
Thanks all and good luck This isn’t the end if you didn’t receive the scholarship. And again decisions are not perfect, and not personal.
I’m somewhat confused. Some people said they got an email saying they were scholars. Is this for the undergraduate transfer or freshman scholarship? Also, just because I haven’t heard yes or no yet doesn’t mean I for sure am not a scholar?
This thread is for the freshman scholarship
Son just got the ‘regret to inform you’ email
Good luck to all those remaining that are still hopeful. <3
Me too. Thank goodness I won’t have my hopes up anymore.
For those of you that won a scholarship, you have the green light to post your winning, as per my son education advisor. We won one. Thanks JKCF
