Aritransfer16, when it comes to this information, I don’t think much of the stuff here have any precedent either. Even your April 17th, is a cotradition itself, given that it falls on a Sunday, and as you mentioned before, it is highly improbable that they will send any notifications over the weekend, if what they told you were to be true, I think they would have said the 15th instead . For this reason, I’m not more inclined to think that what you said is right compared to what many of the other days that people have been talking about!
@pearsonx I see no contradiction in “no later than the seventeenth” - I highly doubt they would announce it on the 16th/17th, so the implication being the weeks prior. The same day my peer received this information, I was told within the next couple of weeks, which matches that timeline. Other posters here have said the same. This also is congruent with what JKCF has had posted on their website. For the most part, the information we have been receiving is consistent. This is also in line with previous years’ announcement timelines (with the exception of last year, where there were admitted and atypical delays). I don’t think there’s any reason to be concerned that it won’t happen by mid-April, based upon what we know. Everything seems to be happening on time.
@anythinghere No insider insight regarding the connection, but the sense I get from my coordinators is that PTK advisers most commonly serve as institutional contacts for the foundation, as PTK membership typically signifies eligibility for the scholarship. That being said, at my college the contact person has typically been the Honors Coordinator, not the PTK adviser, which have historically been separate, though linked, positions. In other words, I get the sense it’s more of an outreach/networking hub, then it is an actual partnership.
I will PM you gem info! Definately enjoy your travels - it’s sounds like a great week.
@aritransfer16 I can only speak of the past few years but in late April 2014, Internationals was at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort in Orlando, Florida. Last year it was mid April at San Antonio Texas. Nearly 3,500 members and advisors from about 500 chapters attend these conferences. Not all colleges pay for their chapter members, most have to fundraise and pay their own way. JKC representatives are at attendance, tabling.
After reading many of the posts it appears there are a wide variety of answers being given for the same question(s). Some indicated finalists would be given a call and some say they will only email. This is a huge honor and it would be a shame if finalists would only be notified by email, although I am sure anyone being notified would be ecstatic one way or another, regardless of how they were told. I only suggested they would hold off on notifying people until mid April because of these events coming up.
@muffinpoptarte Congratulations for winning one of the PTK scholarship(s)!!! The Phi Theta Kappa President’s Breakfast will be honoring the 20 All-USA Community College Academic Team members and the 50 Coca-Cola New Century Scholars. I heard they have already notified those that won the Guistwhite scholarships. People won’t know about the Hites scholarship until May. Did you apply for all of them?
@aritransfer16 I would be interested in your gem info too.
I seriously doubt JKCF gives one whit about PTK conventions. People are definitely overestimating the importance and influence of PTK insofar as JKCF is concerned. It requires a 3.5 and a fee, existing as resume fluff (what you do within the organization is different, but only the tangible skills you develop/actions/projects undertaken/created/led). PTK does not influence or impact selection OR notification. JKCF won’t deprive you of knowing your future because of a convention. Also, their office is only open M-F, so there isn’t ever any notification over the weekend.
@nekozuki i beg to differ. If 91 percent of cooke scholars are ptk members, then it is safe to say that at least it has some effect on selection.
@graceunworthy, I don’t believe nekozuki is dismissing the impact of being a PTK member has on our applications. Rather, she’s talking about the conventions themselves; which I tend to agree on.
Regardless, none of this matters. We all really need to stop over analyzing and just calmly wait. It’s only making this harder :/.
Almost there!
Nekozuki, " depriving you from knowing your future"?!?! Doesn’t it sound a little out of the context? This people will just notify you about if your were a winner or not, so by no notifying you before that day, they are not depriving you of anything. Moreover, if there is a connection between PTK and JKC is that many PTK students meet the minimal requirements to apply for the scholarship, so many of them apply. I don’t think they have a partnership or anything else.
They only thing I know for sure Is that the only individuals who know when the notifications will be send are the people on the committee. I doubt that any of the representatives on the phone knows when will the notifications be sent. Furthermore, Arguing about the notifications seem pointless to me given that the answers variate a lot and so far, most information is just based on speculations. If you READ just a few days ago, there was someone saying that school rep will be motified on April 5, and then they will let us know within a week. From that threat, a lot has changed. So, what reason do we have to believe that any of the new information wouldn’t be equally mistaken ?
I don’t think the PTK affects any of the activities or announcements made by the JKCF. Although it is true that about 85-90 % of the winners of the JKCF transfer scholarships are members of the PTK, this doesn’t mean that they are looking for students who are PTK. This is actually because 85% of the applicants themselves are PTK members as they hear about this scholarship through the PTK chapter. If being part of the PTK was a requirement to win, they would mention that in their website. It is also highly unlikely that they are withholding the notifications to announce it after the PTK convention.
I was also keeping an eye on the college scholarship forum and some people mentioned that their status changed to scholar recently on the application website but they haven’t received any calls or emails from the foundation. They might be getting calls this week. It won’t be long till the transfers also notified sooner than mid April.
Can everybody check their status and see if there is anything different on their application websites?
How do you check your status? For me, I can’t log in the way I used to when I was completing the application.
@anythinghere this is the website you can long in back to your apllication I just dont know where you can look at your status application.jkcf.org

Thanks, @mifit
@Auggie95 No problem just dont know where you can look at your status
Yeah I don’t see anything about a status either way. No “semifinalist” or anything.
Well before clicking the view (blue button) it does say status to the left but it says the same thing like when I submitted the application in Dec. (complete in green letters)
However it does say: Notifications have been sent via email on March 8. If you have not received a notification email, please check your spam filters. If you still have not received notification, please contact us at 800-941-3300 or email scholarships@jkcf.org.
graceunworthy: We are reading the same information, but you’re drawing a false conclusion. The requirements for being in PTK are the same as the JKCF: 3.5 GPA. PTK is the ONLY honors society available to most community college students, and requires only a monetary fee, no additional level of academic excellence, volunteer service, or leadership (students may exercise these things within the organization, but it is neither a requirement of PTK nor exclusive to PTK). If you qualify for PTK, you have achieved nothing greater than any other JKCF applicant (except pay 85 dollars or whatever fee your chapter charges). Most high performing honors students are simply PTK members as a result of the organization’s exclusive presence in community college.
I am not saying this to invalidate you. I’m just telling you what will become evident to you as you move through the university system. In fact, while we’re on the subject, let me impart a little advice:
Resume fluff doesn’t impress JKCF (or other prestigious foundations for that matter); they recognize quality over quantity. PTK CAN help you in the same way any other organization can help you: if you attain a position of leadership, if you develop important skills, or if you create a tangible, measurable impact/outcome. It does not help you if you were never taking an active, meaningful role in the organization. If participation/membership is the extent of your involvement in a society, it needs to have rigorous standards and high selectivity (Phi Beta Kappa invite? Take it and keep it on your resume for life). Frankly, at the graduate level, the more you do that is independent/separate from school-affiliated activities, the better your application will look.
I didn’t just learn this as a JKCF scholar or Cook Organizational Representative. I do nonprofit outreach doing nothing but helping underprivileged students create academic profiles, plans, and resumes that will make them competitive for the most prestigious awards/fellowships around.
I apologize if this sounds harsh. I genuinely don’t mean it to be. But I definitely think it’s something important to know as you continue on your academic journey. Heck, even after JKCF you will still have to compete with others for amazing opportunities (and yeesh, some of these rich kids at the uni/grad level have INSANE resources/resumes/accolades).
Yeah yeah, we got off track. But what else is there to do while the tension of award announcement ratchets up?
