Jackets and Coats?

So it's the middle of the summer and I'm already thinking about the harsh winters (I've lived in Southern Cal my whole life). I'm going to do all my shopping while at MIT because I don't want to deal with packing it up. Where can I find decently priced jackets and coats in the Boston/Cambridge area? I know there's Filene's Basement, but is that a good/best place to get this type of stuff?

there's a free shuttle outside the MIT Coop that takes you to the local mall.

Yupp, but the galleria isn't exactly cheap. I just need to buy a large quantity of winter clothes, so going to the regular ol' stores will add up to a hefty bill (I'm a shorts and t-shirt person).

Yeah, Filene's Basement will be fine if you just want to get stuff cheaply.

It will be fine to get pants and jackets cheaply, but I think it might be advisable to get a good-quality heavy winter coat -- I finally got a "real" winter coat this winter at EMS, and it made a huge difference in my winter happiness.

If you just want a winter coat, why not find a deal online and have it delivered? It's not like you're buying a suit

yea im looking for a nice north face winter jacket too.

Yeah River Phoenix, I think that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to go to a store, and try on some jackets to see what size I am (hehe), then it'll be time to order; I hope I don't procrastinate with this until December...

I pretty much never bother with a winter coat most of the time anyway, you'll be OK taking your time

Figuring out size and style in a store and then seeing what you can get on the internet is a good idea. There's an REI in Brookline you might want to check out. They'll have on the common brands like North Face.

LL Bean makes the best coats :) But, you know, I'm biased, I've lived in New England too long.
