@mel159 I was the exact same way today. I wish other threads were as helpful. Next year’s applicants will benefit more from this thread.
My son interviewed in the Northeast region in late May. At the end of the interview he asked when recipients would receive notification about the scholarship. The response was June 30!! Understandably, he didn’t say anything about the June 15th notification date found on the website. But we were both surprised.
About one week later he received the email requesting details on additional scholarship awards. We are not sure what to make of the notification date descripancies. Hopefully you are correct that notifications will be at the end of this week.
Okay, so let me start off by saying that the lady on the phone was super rude, and didn’t seem to want to answer any of my questions. All she kept saying was that everyone will receive some sort of email by the end of this week, whether it be a disqualification or being selected as a finalist. She just never really adressed why some of us got survey emails so early, why some of us are just getting surveys now, or why some of us haven’t gotten anything at all.
^ I realize that probably isnt very helpful, so I wouldn’t be against someone else calling and posing the question differently. Or we can all decide to be patient until Friday, but that’ll be hard for me cause I’m not that kind of person LOL :-w
If it’s any consolation though, this whole “being notified past June 15th” thing isn’t very new. It’s happened previous years.
But on a side note, I can’t help but ask myself what these surveys could mean. Maybe it’s a final verification for the people that are more likely to receive the scholarship. Maybe everyone gets one and they just haven’t hit me on the list yet. Maybe the information those applicants sent isn’t clear enough.
I feel like my second guess might be right because right now, they have no idea of all of my outside scholarships and how I don’t need a penny more… but I hope the foundation doesn’t only look at financial need, but also how much the potential scholar could benefit from the program as a whole.
I feel like emailing the lady in charge of my region, but I don’t want to come off as annoying.
Okay, I’m done ranting my thoughts lol. :-@
@FutureSurgeon97 Mmm, I would weigh that decision carefully! The last thing you want to do is annoy someone important.
To All: I also received an email from the person in charge of the scholarship (I believe) and she basically asked semi-finalists to be patient. Tough pool this year and she said that applicants would hear back ASAP (she didn’t specify when).
I think there’s one more person here who is attending UCLA but the person I contacted for UCLA semi-finalists said that we could expect to hear back at the end of this week… hopefully
I just called and they said emails were sent out yesterday and they took my information and said they will resend the email, a few minutes later I recieved an email saying they are still working on it to be patient.
@Gigantor Thanks for confirming!
@hallowdreams Yeah, I decided I’ll just be patient. 4 days isn’t much, compared to how much we’ve waited already lol.
I also recieved the email about the delay. At first, it sounded like a rejection though haha.
@hallowdreams I’m from UCLA and I received the email as well about being patient. That just makes me really nervous especially since the interview was so long ago.
I didn’t get it
Wait they emailed me this… Thank you for your interest in the Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) and for taking the time to come in and speak with us. We enjoyed meeting you. As you know, we received more than 4,000 applications from across the nation and interviewed the strongest applicants of the group.
So many of the interviews blew us away, making our final selections all the more difficult. We respectfully ask for your patience as we are still making final decisions. We will notify you as soon as possible as to our final selections for the Class of 2019 Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholars.
Again, thank you for your interest in joining the JRF family. We are humbled by the outpouring of submissions and look forward to making a formal announcement shortly.
So I guess the wait is on!!!
I think the news will come out tomorrow or Thursday
haha I thought it was a rejection letter because it said, “thank you for your interest” and I stoppd reading because I didn’t wanna make it more paintul. But alas- not a rejection.
@mel159 I thought the same thing when I got that email.
Hope today’s the day! Even if I don’t get it, I just want to be put out of the agony of waiting haha
Has anyone heard anything
I don’t think the scholarship sevices manager (Ms. Church) sends out emails to applicants past business hours (5pm). Atleast I’ve never gotten anything from her past five… so I’m thinking we’ll just have to hope tomorrow’s the day.
This waiting game is so annoying :-L . I guess tomorrow must be the day.
Lol @FutureSurgeon97. This wait is killing me too but I think decisions should come out no later than next week hopefully.
