Jam Band

Anyone going to Penn next year whos thought about starting a band when they get there…the idea has crosses my mind. I play acoustic and sing and I like stuff like dave matthews, pink floyd, bob marley and numerous other greats

I would love to play in a band in college...I play bass and guitar. Though I'm not really that great at guitar, I'm quite capable on bass.

thats sweet..how long have you been playing and what style music do you like

me and my friend wrote a sweeet song the other day...gotta put lyrics to it soon..i gotta say its the only song ive written that im truly proud of...although i guess when i wrote my first song i was pretty proud of it at the time

I've been playing bass for almost five years, but for the last two I've been focussing more on guitar...

I'm into a bunch of stuff--Phish, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Outkast, White Stripes, Red Hot Chili Peppers...definitely not into playing punk; I'm more of a fan of playing rock and blues-based stuff.

Drummer here, percussionist for 3 years, then joined a heavy rock/metal band...playing Iron Maiden, Children of Bodom, Guns n Roses, Pantera, for a year, lead guitarist left, and now playing in a (sort of) punk band -_- ..... Fall Out Boy, Jimmy eat world, Blink.....so if ur looking for a drummer, give me a go maybe? im "diversified" lol

There are a lot of musicians here at Penn and several good bands. I've been a bass player since I was 8 years old. We are always looking for other musicians coming in to jam with/write songs.

Is it safe to bring instruments? Also, I've got an acoustic guitar, an electric (expensive), and an electric bass...do I have to choose what to bring, or there's room for all of them?

jpps1 and lishnik21 - Admissions must have been looking for guitar players this year. All three of us EDers play! I play in a band at school events and stuff - electric and acoustic guitar mostly, although I've played bass too. Does anyone know which houses at Penn have practice rooms in them? I think Ware does.

I've only been playing about a year but I play allll the time...just nonstop...so i guess ive gotten pretty good...i dont wanna say im good or skilled because there are sooo many poeple i know that just do it better. Jpps it seems like were into the same music..i like classic rock and bluesy stuff too...i just wanna surround myself with talented people so i can become a better writer and lyricist and guitar player of course

I hope that if I get into penn I'll be able to meet you guys and jam. I play guitar too, 8 yrs now, moved on to classical guitar, but I play metal, punk, blues...no rock though... But...I'm a junior hides in shame, so I wont even be applying until next year.

yea i tried out a friends classical and was amazed and how sweet it was to fingerpick...so ive been thinking about getting one or maybe just getting an acoustic and putting nylons on it

Yes, bring your instruments. I have an acoustic guitar and an acoustic bass in my dorm room that I write on every night.

ThomasH32 - So, people play instruments in the rooms with no problem?

Yeah, everyone does in all of the college houses. Some of the high rises have music rooms with pianos in it and you can take an amp up there and jam with a drum set, etc.
