I'm already a student here, but I just watched this video and got chills. It's really as beautiful and unique as it appears in this video.

It is a masterpiece!!!

As a parent who attended NCSU in the 80’s, has a daughter there now, and a son who hopes to be accepted there in 2 years, my “unbiased” opinion is that NC State has its best days ahead of it. Very few campuses in the USA can boast the facilities, business relationships, and (most of all) room for expansion like Centennial Campus offers the State of North Carolina.

It is only fitting that NCSU honor one of its greatest visionary graduates, Gov. James Hunt, with a library named in his honor. And that’s coming from a guy who as a student campaigned vigorously against Hunt in his Senatorial race with Jesse Helms. I will always respect and appreciate the vision he (and William Friday) has had for education and for his alma mater!

What degree did you graduate with, klinger?

The business relationships never cease to amaze me. I’m a Paper Science & Engineering student and not only do the same companies come back year after year to hire our graduates, but they fund our scholarships. One company, Domtar, donated all the paper the College of Natural Resources uses. You can tell they really believe in NC State students.

I joke around that we are “tough, working stock”. I just get that sense of practicality and dedication from a lot of CNR and COE students. I’m sure it exists in other Colleges, but I don’t have the experience in them.

Our son has been accepted at NCSU. We are local Raleigh residents. Went to the Hunt library today for the first time. Incredible!

The “bookbot” is cool, but the facility itself is absolutely stunning.

To me it’s like a cross between an Apple Store and a Tim Burton Movie. We’ve been to some amazing placing and seen some incredible structures and buildings… the Hunt Library is among the most spectacular and visually interesting facilities I have ever had the pleasure to tour.

I can’t imagine a more interesting or ideal place to study. In fact I’d love to live in that library.

Some friends and I said if they had showers and beds we would certainly live in Hunt.

I’m glad you had such a positive experience. Congratulations to your son!

You are right on the mark about those Paper Science scholarships. I’ve been told by Textile alums that the same holds true in that College too. Namely, several corporations and/or foundations fund scholarships in those Colleges, and the number of competitors for the money isn’t as cut-throat as the scholarships in the more “popular” majors in engineering, computer science, business, etc.

I did not graduate from NC State, but loved my time there. Spent two full years as a Mechanical Engineering student and NROTC middie (summer terms too). I left as a Junior mechanical engineering major, went West for what I thought would be 1 year, and ended up graduating from a small college in Oregon. Long story…

When my artsy daughter decided to pursue Design instead of Fine Arts, then State came back into the picture, and she was accepted to the College of Design 2 years ago. It surprised me, but I absolutely loved coming back to the campus and seeing the positive changes and opportunities for students that have popped up all over Raleigh. Centennial Campus blew my socks off! Much better environment than 30 yrs ago (except for the basketball, which was ELECTRIFYING as a student in the Valvano era!)

We took a tour just yesterday. I can honestly say, we are still shaking our heads. It is absolutely stunning! The bookbot was incredible and the number of mac computers per square foot still has us in awe. The students of NCSU have a true gem at their fingertips and I have never been so impressed with a facility. It is incredible.
