There isn’t much merit money out there at JMU. only 2.5% of freshman with no need got merit money and the average award was about $3500, to give you some idea. Look on their website and see if you have a better than average chance at any of their merit awards listed- and ask Admissions about what’s available in merit money and what the stats are for getting it You might have a better than average chance if you meet certain specific criteria that the school seeks and if those are “rare birds” in the applicant pool.

@cptofthehouse‌ yea I will email and find out!! Thanks for the great advice

You have a 1300 M+CR. I dont think you can expect much/any merit from JMU.

How much merit do you need? How much will your family pay.

Are you going to retest?

Well @mom2collegekids‌ I was thinking that Jmu isn’t too highly recognized. Therefore it would take about $3-5k/year to bring down the price for me to consider since I don’t see it as prestigious. 30k per year would be a good deal and would make it worth visiting the school in a few months.

James Madison does not have guaranteed merit. But, does have some competitive merit…

The Dingledine is one of the larger competitive scholarships, requires an EA application, and a separate scholarship application, <a href=“Dingledine-Bluestone Scholarship - JMU”>Dingledine-Bluestone Scholarship - JMU;

Madison Achievement Scholarships are often awarded by a particular program or major, but there are some offered by the university – <a href=“Madison Award for Academic Excellence - JMU”>Madison Award for Academic Excellence - JMU;

Here is the link to the general scholarship information page – <a href=“Tuition, Financial Aid & Scholarships - JMU”>Tuition, Financial Aid & Scholarships - JMU;

You meet the basic eligibility requirements for scholarships consideration at JMU, but since all scholarships are competitive, there is no way to know whether or not you would be awarded a scholarship.

Seriously consider your SUNY’s…you’ll save a ton of $$
