James Madison University vs Virginia Tech

Another stat, not here is that JMU is ranked #1 by both the Wall Street Journal and the Times Higher Education that JMU students are most likely in the nation to suggest their school to friends and family. To me this says more than many of the above stats.
I have visited JMU several times, I am not sure how a 20k student population could compare to a high school campus.
Either way, great schools!

My neighbor’s son is a junior at VT. Pretty sure they’re almost required to move off campus after freshman year due to overcrowding. He was picking his off campus housing fall of his freshman year.

Hi, I’m perusing a career in biological research but I’m trying to decide between VT and JMU. I visited the campus for both schools and I like the campus for JMU better but I hear that VT has better biology courses. Which school would be best for my career? Also, which school would be recognized better for a career in biological research after college?

Coach Buzz Williams left VT basketball program for Texas A&M so it will be interesting to see how VT does this year. TAM too!

We aren’t really answering the posters questions but…

VT hired Mike Young (Sporting News College Basketball Coach of the Year) who will struggle this year having a small recruiting class but for next year he has a Top 10 recruiting class coming in … so the future is bright. Even his pieced together team this year opened up ACC play with win over Clemson (who was favored). Many say Mike Young is an incredible coach - so the future is bright.

P.S. Mike Youngs pieced together 2019 team would most likely beat JMU’s basketball team by double digits. VT plays in the #1 basketball conference in the country the ACC. JMU plays in a mid-major CAA. Of course in college basketball anythings possible in any game.

Mr. @cbl1 , I posted this in other forums, but I’m rather stuck between JMU CIS and Pamplin BIT-Cyber. Both programs seem great, have similar stats (in regards to jobs, salary, etc.), but deep in my heart, I’d rather go to JMU, but most people on this forum are saying that JMU has no rep outside VA-DC-MD area, and that a VA Tech diploma will be recognized throughout the country, while a JMU degree will only get me a job in NoVA area. Is this true? I like the smaller school feel of JMU and I’m not much of a partyer (but still, JMU CIS is CAC-ABET accredited and BIT isn’t). Should the accreditation be a factor?

Also, which program is harder and more rigorous? I’m guessing JMU CIS, but I don’t know.
I’m not really considering JMU COB for QFin because I’d rather go to Stevens for the major. I believe that Stevens Institute of technology in NJ is better for QFin than JMU, but not by a huge margin though.

Actually JMU has more of party school rep then VT. And yes VT will have a more national reputation. Rigor wise I have no idea.
