James Madison?

I'm transferring to MSU this coming fall, and currently my major is set as Chinese. I think I would like to do something with international relations, which is why I am interested in possibly double majoring with JMC's International Relations. However, I've heard that JMC is extremely rigorous and it would be nearly impossible to successfully double major. Would a double major be doable?

JMC is very rigorous, however I knew quite a few people in JMC that double major. It is very doable, especially if you have a lot of gen ed requirements completed at another college.

fa-la-la-lena is in JMC so hopefully she weighs in :).

When I was looking at Michigan State University I discovered JMC and decided to apply to JMC as part of my application. If you go to the JMC website there is a video about the school, one of the students mention how everyone they know double major and there is not one student they know who is just have one major in JMC partly due to the students vast interest. So yes, I think double majoring in JMC is very common.

double majoring is definitely common even though the curriculum at James madison is rather challenging (as coolbrezze mentioned, almost everyone I know in James madison has 2 majors, a couple minors and specializations etc…). James madison is a rigorous program but it isn’t as difficult as some people make it out to be (most engineering/technical majors still have a heavier courseload). I am a double major in economics and international relations, and fortunately for me degree requirements overlap to a great extent. I don’t find my workload unbearable at all; granted, there are times when you have to pull an all-nighter to study or finish that paper, but it is not a frequent occurrence. As a transfer student if you get most of your gen eds waived, it should be no problem to double major (just expect to do some creative class-maneuvering or study abroad/take classes during a summer).

Thanks for the responses! I think I’m going to go ahead and double major. :)
