I have been invited to the chancellor's scholar program and the james scholar program as a business student at uiuc. I have read about the benefits of each program and talked to people about them - priority registration (probably one of the biggest advantages), honors classes, trip to brazil, sleeman leadership seminar, etc.

From anyone who has maybe gone through these one or both of these programs or has some insight, do you think these are big advantages in terms of getting a job after college or an opportunity for an interview? I kind of feel like employers, if they are looking for high achieving students, would look for kids with good grades, and if they are looking at uiuc then naturally they would want to look at the honors (james scholar) kids first.

However, does this hold weight when comparing kids from different schools. I am considering uw madison and they don't have an honors program for business, although i am a direct admit into their three year program. Would an employer, if recruiting at both schools, hold a james scholar kid in higher regard than a uw madison kid if their grades and involvement were similar?

My view right now is that, since theres no honors program at uw madison, that the uw madison kid wouldn't be punished for not having an honors program on their resume and that an employer would see them as equal to a similar james scholar kid at uiuc (if they regarded both universities similarly). Please let me know if my view is right or wrong and why, and any other insight into the programs and their benefits for jobs over not being in the program would be appreciated.

Thank you
