Jan. 22nd Preparation

Well, I'm a Junior, and I've taken the PSAT twice. I just received the scores for my second time around on Monday: 186 (62 CR, 66 M, 58 W) - up ~20 from Sophomore year (167).

I've only ever done a few practice problems; I consider my most recent score to be an unbuffed "starting point." I suspect if I was a natural test taker, I would have done a bit better. I'm taking the Jan 22nd SAT. I have the BB and Barron's 2400. I've read the stickies about 6 months ago, which looked very helpful. I am wondering if there are any websites that could aid any part of the test (vocab, math, etc). I get the SAT daily email question, so I can probably do those as well (they piled up in my SAT folder).

Math is what I want to focus on the most - pushing for 750+ - but writing is definitely a problem. In a month's time I am going to do some serious prepping. Practice problems are the only sure way to improve.

My questions are these: how many of the SATs from the BB do you recommend taking in a month's time? Do you recommend full 4 hour "mock SAT" sessions, or just select sections - and what frequency should they be taken (every Saturday is a given, but would I benefit from doing one every few days over the break)? I would expect to not do all 10 (saving a couple for a possible second SAT), but I will if it benefits me. Also, are any of the practice tests in the BB varying in difficulty, or are they all more or less the same?

Sorry for the chain questions.

how many of the SATs from the BB do you recommend taking in a month’s time?
All of them. They’re very lucrative.
Do you recommend full 4 hour “mock SAT” sessions, or just select sections - and what frequency should they be taken?
I recommend you focus on a certain subject every day, finishing a whole test in 3 days. But be careful, never leave a mistake unchecked. Check every mistake and try to understand what you did wrong.

And the BB is all the same level. Questions in the test, however, vary in difficulty.

And i think you should finish the BB this month and next time try Barrons or something
Good Luck

Ah, I see. Thank you very much for answering my questions. By Barron’s, do you mean the small one, or the large one? I’m reading the small one in increments, following up with a BB section. Also, are the tips in the BB before the practice tests worth reading in your opinion?

Umm… No. I think the best tips you can get are silverturtle’s. His writing guide is absolutely amazing. Read it once then start practicing. As for reading, You have to develop the best strategies for yourself such as reading the passage first or reading it while answering the questions. U can find lots of refrences on CC about reading strategies. Math, however, is something you can just jump straight in and learn from your mistakes. Remember, Practice makes perfect :)

Yeah, it really does make perfect. I’ve been seeing a lot of stuff floating around on the forums about writing… apparently you get an excellent score regardless of content if you can manage to fill the pages.
