Does a deadline of Jan. 15th mean that you have until the end of the day on the 15th? Or should the app be turned in before January 15th, like on the 14th. Help!
11:59:59 p.m. 1/15/2015, although I would not suggest waiting until the literal last second
@skieurope the date you’re referring to is New Year’s.
He meant 1/15.
Submitted! Ahhhhhh.
Ditto itsjustmyfuture. Quite giddy with relief
Think you had until midnight!
@CheddarcheeseMN Yes, but what time zone? Plus one school wanted a postmark of January 15, another wanted materials received by the date, and I suspect most want electronic delivery by midnight.
Good luck everyone!
Are we supposed to get some sort of e-mail from St. Paul’s saying that we’ve completed our application because I sent everything required on gateway but haven’t gotten an e-mail yet. Is it send at midnight or something?
@thereddevils: It would depend if it’s automated or not, but I suppose you should receive it by now?
@thereddevils, I don’t think they send a confirming email. Just the little green “checkoff boxes” in the Gateway “checklist” view. If you click on the item (such as “Candidate Statement”) it opens a sub-menu that says “Candidate Statement 1 was submitted Date”. You could always screenshot that for your records if you are worried. Then you could prove the date-stamp for receipt.
Oh, also don’t freak out: The Gateway people posted this general message:

It is a little disconcerting that there’s no way to confirm that the schools actually got the Gateway and SAO apps. I emailed one school, where we had started the process with the Gateway app and then changed to the SAO app, just to make sure there was no confusion. Their response was that they are still processing the apps and will let me know if they need anything else. I emailed a second school, to ask about the January SSAT results, and that school confirmed (without me asking) that they had received the complete SAO app. A third school has an online portal which shows some parts of DD’s app received, other parts still pending. (Same SAO app in all three cases, submitted on 1/11.)
Basically, I think the schools are still sorting through all the applications and it may be a few days before we hear anything. I hope they’ll acknowledge that they received everything at some point. I imagine they will, otherwise they’ll get a lot of calls.
Doesn’t Gateway have little green check marks when things have been submitted? I can’t remember exactly, but I recall there is also a check when the school has downloaded the individual parts. I also remember that it took a few days after 1/15 for the schools to download all of their portions. I also remember that only some of the schools let us know when they received the completed application, but that took at least a week to receive that email. Just make sure that all of your parts have been submitted, the rest will come.
This is a very difficult time, but M10 will be here before you know it!
I remember from 2 years ago getting postcards from the schools informing application is complete. If the material is sent close to 1/15, it can take a week or 10 days to get the postcard. Some schools sent email confirmation. Other schools sent new websites for checking the application status.
I’d watch out for emails next couple of weeks asking for any missing item.
@Momto4kids…Yes, you are right. On the Gateway site, it has a green check box once you submit it, and then it changes to a green check box with a downward arrow when the school downloads each piece. The SAO/SSAT site doesn’t have anything similar…no indication of whether the school got it.
edited to finish the sentence
@momonymous I would expect that since you submitted it close to January 15 and it is still in that overall time period, they are still busy processing applications so it might take some time. Don’t worry. If the school is missing a piece or something does not meet their standards, they will/should contact you.
Perhaps it is useful to remember that most schools do not say “we have a Jan 15 deadline. If you miss it, your application will NOT be considered!”
Instead, most schools say something along the lines of “In order to guarantee a March 10 decision, application materials should be submitted by January 15.”
I doubt there is a gatekeeper with a stopwatch. I would guess that the school will use the next couple of weeks to request missing pieces and try to get the full files assembled for their readers by the end of the month.
Just speculation, but it makes sense to me.
