January 2009 SAT Writing Discussion

wait, so what was the other no error? I read ppl talking about two no errors in a row?

The second one people are talking about is the Hagia Sofia one, which is after the Oyster problem. I put C for the Hagia Sofia one ("it is celebrated not so much for its _, but because of its _")

same ok... so there werent 2 E's in a row?

I don't know, there doesn't seem to be a consensus on that one (Hagia Sofia).

Sorry if this was already asked, but I couldn't find it in the thread

For the 2nd to last question of the whole test (#13),
was it:

mr.b's wrist was stung by an indignant bee
or
mr.b was stung on the wrist by an indignant bee <---I said this one, but I spent forever on this question because they are so similar XD

Oh and for the Paris Fair I said A, but I think its a toss up, if its E I won't be surprised lol =D

I'm hoping for -2/-3 Writing (I got that stupid NASA astronaut one wrong, the transitional word between working as a doctor and then joining the peace corps, in my head being a doctor and then helping abroad had the continuity the sentence needed, but now I can see how however might be correct)

Oh well there is always another one XD

I'm 100% sure it was C. Bet my life on it.

@USNA: mr.b was stung on the wrist by an indignant bee. It doesn't make sense that a wrist would be gardening. I got A for the fair one too.

nvm then :</p>

mr.b's wrist was stung by an indignant bee
or
mr.b was stung on the wrist by an indignant bee <---I said this one, but I spent forever on this question because they are so similar XD

The sentence format was like "Cutting the lawn, Mr. B's wrist..."

since the subject of the second clause has to be Mr. B and not his wrist, you could narrow the choices down to:
* Mr. B was stung by an indignant bee
* Mr. B was stung from an indignant bee

So you're right, since "by" makes more sense.

this might have been in the experimental section (it's all running together), but what about the ones with the two divers whose weight was too much, causing the diving board to buckle?

@ingette
I'm pretty sure that was experimental

so don't worry =D

oh, good! there were three writing in the experimental section that you all would be arguing about for hours. so tough.

Im new to this forum... was one of the answer (A) for the sentence corrections, with the underline word "is"

Is is correct :)

thanks... 700 equal 5 wrong w/ 10or11 essay?

So the answer to the sentence about the world fair was E.
Told you all. :)

um, no. :P

Proof? :) noooo

So whoever got the one with math as an experimental, how many E's did you guys get on the sentence error identification part?

I think i only got 1 or 2 E on the Sentence error indentification part and i am thinking i might be screwed...

Cause I said so ? um, yeah :P

Idk, E was prolly right, but I'm not 100% convinced...which grammatical rule does A break? Like in terms of what the blue book says.

I am more or less sure in all my answers but one. I guess I missed something obvious because nobody has mentioned it so far.

Fabric was expensive ..., (it is why)/(it explains why) .... scraps ... .
I did not see better alternatives.
