January 2009 SAT Writing Discussion

invisiblemonster - my cr tutor gave me the qas for jan 06, 07, and 08 and i have the score conversion table, but i don't know which year it belongs to

anyway, -1 MC was an 800 with 12 & 11 essay, 790 with a 10 essay, 770 with a 9 essay

jules, whats the typical score for -8 cr? - 10? -12?

what was the paragraph question where it asked about the year "1865" or something? was it delete or leave it as it is?

Well I really just want 2000. It's my first time taking it and I'm just a sophomore.

Hopefully 770+ and then 700+ on math....so that means I have to get uhhh 530 on CR to meet my goal, which is achievable lol even though I know I did terrrribleeee on that ):

Invisible - same with me even tho Im a junior.
M + W = high 1500s together.
C - 600 the 1st time.
I jusr need like a 650

Haha alright, thanks jules :)

How many can I miss, do you think, to still get a 600 on CR?

-8 CR would be 49-8-2=39
w/ essay, 12:690, 11:670, 10:660

-10 .. 49-10-2.5=37
w/ essay, 12:670, 11:660, 10:640

-12 .. 49-12-3=34
w/ essay, 12:650, 11:630, 10:610

I think you got writing and CR mixed up, jules. lol

jules - -12 = 8 wrong.
on the critical reading section.

with a 12 essay - 700 with a raw score of 40, 600 with a raw score of 28
with an 11 essay - 700 with 42, 600 with 30
10 essay - 700 with 43, 600 with 32
9 essay - 700 with 44, 600 with 34

sorry, i meant writing

as for critical reading i have absolutely no clue

lol well that's not very helpful :P

@jules: is there any possibility -2 on writing MC can earn a 800. with a 12 essay that is

yes, definitely

also, what was the exact sentence w/ the oysters? i dont remember it and i might have gotten it wrong!

I guess my question is that if it is likely, not a possibility...hehehe

If you get a 12 on your essay, its pretty likely -2 is still 800... maybe not for 11, 10 essays. BUt it would still be pretty high. and again, anyone know what the oyster problem said? dont remember it!

@yet: thanks for your help.
yes it was about chesapeake bay and ships being retired from service.
hope it helps.

also, what was the exact sentence w/ the oysters? i dont remember it and i might have gotten it wrong!
Something along the lines of, "For nearly a century, wooden ships were used to harvest oysters in the Chesapeake Bay, but a few such vessels remain functioning today"
