December 2009 SAT Writing Thread

Thought it was pretty fair. Glad to not have another 35 question writing experimental on my test...

One of the last writing sentence correction questions… Was “insure” wrong because it had to be “ensure”?

I believe so.

For the error question with “hung” was the error “their head” cause it should be “their heads”?

Yeah, I almost glossed over that one. It was “their head” cause it had to be “their heads”

^ I chose “insure” as the error. Can’t remember the specifics of the hung one.

I will say in general though that I noticed a lot of the questions were testing subject/verb agreement (particularly with collective noun use).

WTH was up with that essay im getting like 6-8 on that one no joke.

“The FDA puts stickers on fruit labeling it as organic to insure consumers the fruit was grown without pesticides” <— The question was something like that, so it had to be ensure.

Yeah, it should have been their heads.

I had the writing experimental.

i had two writings. can someone tell me the topic of their improving the paragraph section so I know which is experimental?

The non-experimental writing was about the subway system; the experimental one was about the Hawaiian museum. My friend had an experimental math and confirmed that the New York subway was the actual writing section. Also, the Hawaii section came right after the essay, so I knew it was an experimental.

are there multiple questions for the essay? what was yours?

did anyone get ‘preoccupied with’ should be ‘preoccupied by’ for one of them?

Is it easier to make friendships?

Orange - I believe preoccupied with is the correct idiom

are you sure? wat is ur average writing score?

Orange - u already know my avg. writing scores

June: 800
October: 750

“preoccupied with” itself has no error, but i was wondering if that phrase fit within the context…

“Insure” should have been “assure.” I struggled with that one for a while, tossing around insure and ensure and finally assure dawned on me.

for the one in the last section
was it “twice as long as” or the one with “doubled”?

I put (E) double for that one

I put one of the choices with “twice”
