I am very disappointed with my score because of my writing section. Writing/grammar are my forte and the reason why i love and do so well in english/latin/journalism. I had been scoring 780’s on all the practices and even double checked my answers for the writing section on here and found I got all right that were discussed and was very satisfied with my essay. It’s one of the best I’ve ever written. In turn, I received 8 on my essay which was a spit in the face, and my writing score was the lowest of the three. My best subject was even worse than my math score, the section where I skipped more questions than I have fingers. I’m so depressed. I like my improvements on CR/math, but the SAT basically says that I have the least aptitude for what I love the most. I read the rubric for a “4” which is what I got on the essay and felt insulted that my writing was considered to have limited mastery of language. I hate to be one of “those” people on here, I’m still proud of my score, but the low writing was a punch to the gut. It was supposed to be my highest score.

Long story short, 770 CR, 660 Math, 650 Writing (8/12 essay)= 2080. Not anywhere near where I need to be, but I know I can get there. Not aiming for a 2400, anyway.

That’s because the SAT essay follows a formula that isn’t explicitly stated on the College Board’s published grading rubric. You could be the greatest writer in the world, but if you don’t structure the essay properly, you won’t receive a good score.

CR-770(-10)
Writing-730(+110)
10 Essay
71 MC
Math-680(+60)

Total:2180

Superscore:2190

I’m disappointed with the CR score , not only did my score drop 10 points, but I really thought I was going to get an 800. I would’ve liked a 700+ on the math, but I guess I’m OK with everything else.

Gah, I hardly studied for the SAT other than winter break/little bit over the summer. That probably hurt my score. >< Hmm… math is definately my weak point… I think it’s just because I don’t like the subject in general–have to change my attitude?

With some fine tuning, I think I can raise my critical reading/writing scores. As for math… I think I need to seriously address my weak areas and crack down on some practice problems.

can someone please tell me how i can improve my reading? i was expecting at least 650+ and for writing 700+. please help, i want a 2200. how long should i study before my next SAT? should i take it in march or may?

It seems that the math curve was harsher than some expected, since some of the last questions were harder than most of the other tests (in my opinion).

im considering taking it a 3rd time in may; will this look bad to colleges?
i cant say im unhappy, but i am somewhat disappointed. on the last 3 BB practice tests i took i got 2 800s and one 780 in CR, so getting a 740 was an unwelcome surprise.

Special congrats to fellow 2400ers!
Also congrats to everyone else; I glanced over the thread and so far the scores are looking really good, a lot of 2200s+.

I’m posting from my younger sister, a 9th grader and a first time SAT taker.

660 CR
650 M
680 W (67 MC and 9 essay)
Composite: 1990

I don’t know what happened with math… I thought CR was crazy hard and was expecting a 600, but thought math was ok and expected 700.
I am so unhappy with my score lol
