yeah condemnation was too harsh

He was critical but it didn’t seem like he would be confrontational or outspoken

yeah condemnation was too harsh

He was critical but it didn’t seem like he would be confrontational or outspoken

did anyone put “could be achieved with practice” for the short comparing passages one about actors

@Mystic1996, glasses pointed out what I think is the best reason that the answer was outspoken condemnation: the passage said that Mamet had launched caustic criticisms against these practices of developing a genuine connection with the subtext of the story. The use of the word caustic, combined with his dismissal of these methods as wasting time, indicates to me that not only would his attitude toward these methods be outspoken condemnation, he has already condemned these methods publicly. Maybe I’m wrong, either way, I hope that helps.

Don’t mean to argue, but he was outspoken if he wrote “caustically” about it. And yes i put “could be achieed with practice”

It said “guarded” skepticism. If he wrote “caustically,” it wouldn’t be guarded skepticism right?

@radicalness oh I see… I didn’t read carefully enough and missed “caustic” ugh.

And yes I got could be achieved

but in context it was more of his writing that reflected that caustic criticism wasn’t it?

@Chemmy
“caustically” – severely critically
“outspoken” – frank in stating one’s opinions, esp. if they are critical or controversial
“condemnation” – expressing an unfavorable or adverse judgment on

yeah i think i remember it said it was in his writing, but that doesnt matter. if it was in his writing he was thinking about it caustically, and if he thought about it caustically then he surely would respond to those methods caustically —> “outspoken condemnation”!

@glasses1, yes, I put “could be achieved with practice.” I didn’t really like that answer, but I think I eliminated the rest because they were more in line with the opinions of Mamet than the view presented in the first passage.

I get all of those, but it just seemed like that would be how he would react toward those actors

yeah thats fine i could be wrong too haha

what’s max you can get on essay if you didn’t write a conclusion… I wrote an intro and 2 body paragraphs…all 3 paragraphs are well written but don’t use great vocabulary.

@Radicalness, yeah i think that’s how i went about it too

@bhchamp i didnt write a conclusion or even start writing about third example i had said i would write about in introduction. we’ll probably end up with anywhere from 7-9

@glasses1 yeah I’m afraid I’m going to get an 8 which stinks because I was feeling pretty good about the MC and didn’t want that to bring me down. oh well

What would 4 wrong and 8 on essay be?

also does anyone remember anything/have any questions about cr passages and questions about seahorses, architecture or traditionalist/revisionist views on the cold war? i have a shaky memory of what i put for those and am trying to jog my memory

I rushed to write my conclusion and 3rd example. Third example was Sir Isaac Newton, conclusion was basically, “As we can see, mimicry is requisite for originality.” The rest was well written, I’m just not used to 25 minute essays, and this was my first SAT, basically went in dry. Usually I have a good 40+ mins in any of my APs.

@bhchamp. sometimes the curves are so lenient that a high mc score on writing (1 or 2 off) can assuage the effects of a bad essay score. so 780-800 on mc and 9 on essay can still be an 800 overall, but when you start getting into under 9 (and considering that this SAT probably wont have that lenient of a curve), id say a 780-800 and an 8 would end up as anywhere from 750-770

do u guys remember more questions of the short comparison?

one is the “Guarded skepticism” vs " outspoken condemnation

one is “limited, because many ways to prepare…?”

one is “achieved through practice”

what’s the other one?

I also got limited for one of them.
