Yeah, but rain isn't nessecerily good. Plus, volcanos anre't nessecerily bad. The point is that black holes are bad, but star creation is good. At least thats how I interpreted it...

I don't think there was a good v.s. bad relationship. At least I didn't interprete it that way. I think it had to do more with distance. Well, guess we'll have to wait and see.

It's volcano. The sentence that was quoted was about black holes affecting faraway stars. Since the choice was volcanoes causing rain in other continents it's showing a faraway effect.

To me, the point was that something destructive actually led to the growth of something else. The passage explicitly said in the beginning that black holes are destructive. In the end, scientists were surprised to see that black holes actually led to star formation. I dunno.. i chose volcanoes in the beginning but I switched to overfishing at the end.. it just seemed like a better fit.

Physics08, I picked overfishing FIRST then switched to volcano. ;x

Physics, overfishing leading to overpopulation is directly related though. If you catch all of the big fish the little organisms will flourish.

The passage was talking about black holes leading to creation far away which is odd. In theory Black holes should destroy everything not lead to growth. Therefore it is volcano because a volcano eruption leading to more rainfall is surprising and not related in any way.

I don't agree. Overfishing destroys some fish, but lets other things flourish. Just like black holes destroy, but can also create.

But the passage started it was surprising. It is no surprise that if you overfish that the species lower on the food chain will flourish.

I read it as two items that should have no relation to each other. Every other choice had a direct corelation to the outcome.

icebarracuda.. the choice didnt specify between big fish or little organisms. It strictly said overfishing led to an increase of fish. i dont see anything about whether fish are big or small.

The fact is that the overfishing thing occurs in ONE gulf. Whereas, the volcano effect stretches over CONTINENTS.

I could have sworn that the choice said overfishing leads to an increase in smaller fish. Maybe not.

Yeah, but the point is that black holes cause harm, but also help, just like overfishing.

I saw it as destruction leading to creation... thats why CR is so controversial.. you get a different answer if you think differently. I understand what you are saying, but I'm sticking with my logic. At least I didnt screw up my vocab : D

How does overfishing help? Those statements arn't factual in the questions dark, they are hypothetical.

Ya, and luckily I did quite well on vocab as well :P Maybe the question will be thrown out for controversy. It happened to a question on the October test.

Yeah, I got 3 wrong on vocab....So i can't mess around on the others...

Really? So it's not rare for CB to do something like that? In that case, if you get it wrong, it doesn't affect your score, right?

Yup, it is completely thrown out and I believe they count it as correct. My raw score was still out of 67 questions.

I don't think there's any reason why this question should be thrown out. It seems to me that volcano is clearly the answer for the reasons Julina mentioned above. :)

Either way it won't matter to me because I put volcano.

Lol, maybe they'll throw out some other question. There were quite a few under controversy in the SAT topics.
